10psi oil pressure drop after 5k!
10psi oil pressure drop after 5k!
The motor has nearly 155k very rough miles. I am using 20-50 motor oil. Is it possible something is getting clogged or is it just wear that is causing this. I never really paid that much attention to the oil pressure at wot, but i don't think that this should be happening.
I have a problem where in second gear pulls the oil pressure will drop down to about 25 psi when I first get on it, then spike back up to 50-55 as the revs climp above 4250. No one seems to be able to give me a satisfactory answer as to why this is happening, so I continue to drive normally.
That's my advice- beat her into the ground!

it drops 10 psi, or drops TO 10 psi?
You take it past 5k rpms and your not at WOT?
In every gear/ all speeds, or just off the line?
When is the last time you ran 30 or 40 weight oil?
btw, i don't understand whats not to understand about your dyno numbers so i guess i shouldn't be responding.....

Who knows maybe the 20-50 is too thick to flow very well at high rpms? My sig is like that for reason. There are quite a few little trolls on this bored that can't understand that my dyno was done before my cam even though it clearly said so in my sig.

Well, this thread seemed like it might be relelvent to me.
I was also thinking maybe you should cut it back to 10-40 and see how it behaves.
I think it might have been shoebox who posted the rpm vs. tps to % WOT. Basically if i remember correctly if your high rpm you don't have to have it floored to be WOT. But that doesn't really affect your pressure, just that your WOT and you didn't realize it.

you're lucky man! mines drops 20-30 psi! it starts to drop just past 4K going from 40-45 psi, down to 20, then if i stay on it any longer it will sometimes drop down to 15. it once went down to 10 on a 116 degree day! its been doing this for 2 years, ive posted on here multiple times about this problem, and got plenty of answers. i guess my oil pump is just worn out, and cant keep up at that high of RPM's. as the other guy said, ive simply put in the back of my head, hoping to forget, and praying nothing goes till i have money for a new engine. i cant really think of nething else to do. if i go in there to try to replace my pump, i might as well rebuild the bottom end, so ill just put it off i guess.
i use 5W30/10W30 mobil 1 and an extra capacity filter and have 103,000 miles

As long as it doesn't go knock, knock, knock I say drive away, but then again I doubt I am the one to be listening to right now.
BTW, If it does go, I can definetely recommend a machine shop not to take it to.
