100 octane?

I went to the track lastnight, we paid, and realized I needed gas, and was kinda forced to use 100 octane! (that's the lowest octane rating they had) after the first run my SES light came on, now would the 100 octane mess up my 02's since I really didn't need to use that high of a octane? would it also kill my performance?

If it was leaded 100 octane your o2's are toast. Leaded gas and oxygen sensors don't mix well. Niether do catalytic converters if you still have one.

What he said. If it was unleaded it should be fine. I run Sunoco 104 unleaded when I'm running the bottle at the track. No problems with it.

From what I heard that if you run 100 plus octane and you don't need it, it can hurt performance!

see both my replies are came from some pretty decently modded cars , yeah you both could benefit from the higher octane rating.

There was a post here about a couple of weeks ago that you can do a search on. Most tracks I have been to only carry LEADED gas. B/c the unleaded doesn't sell to well. And I bet that is what went in your car. High octane UNleaded will NOT hurt your car, even if it is stock. But I bet your O2s are toast. Scan the codes, and I bet there are 2 of them for each sensor.

You can add like 2 gallons of Tuloene (sp) w/ 3/4 tank of 93, and that will equal out to about 96-97 REAL octane. Most of the time when you pump 93, you are lucky if you are getting 90.

other than killing off my o2's would the leaded gas kill my times?

highest trap was 101 that night, with the cutout open

Many factors can effect performance. BP, humidity, temp, even whether or not it is sunny or cloudy... Without accurate weather for each run it is impossible to make a real determination.

I have been running VP or Sunoco unleaded mixed with 93-94 unleaded for several years and have had zero problems with 02 sensors. Leaded fuel or "low lead" aviation fuel will cause problems however.

Too much Octane will hurt performance.

From: Michigan is a decent state.
i almost ran out of gas (didn't expect it to be so empty!) so i get a gallon of 105 mixed with about1/2 gallon of 93. no problems except the $5/gal price
