my buddy has a 97 firdbird formula, and he took the driver side manifold off,and saw 327 stamped on the side, with a 2 under it,does this mean its a 327?is that even possible,it had the lt1 intake and all on it,like it is supposed to,a special option or something?thanks.

327 are the last 3 digits of the casting #. Gaze upon this link.

The differnce between a 327 and a 350 is only in the stroke, they both have a 4 inch bore. By changing the stroke of the motor you get the 350. As far as I know the 327 is the smallest 4" bore motor in the SBC line up. Could be the reason.

The original Z28 (1967) had a 302 with a 4" bore.

No, it is because of the part number. Just like someone else said, it is the last three digits. It is like 10830327 or something like that. I have had two lt1s and they both said 327.

it's always been like that since I baught it. It's a 97, so I just thought it was the other cat, but I'm not sure. Doesn't matter, I'll have headers/y-pipe in a few months (finger's crossed)

You have heard of the dual cats on 95-97 LT1's? That can is the driver's side cat. The passenger side of the exhaust has the cat in the usual place, under the passenger side floor. Check out my photos in my sig to see how screwed up the headers look for a 96 Z28 when you have to retain emissions.
