Hey can you explain to me why it is more dangerous to have a cage in a street car. I'm not saying you wrong or anything i'm just wondering why it would be safer without one. Thanks.

 

Yes a cage will protect you from being crushed in the car.

The problem is that with standard seat belts and safety gear your not restrained enough to prevent you from bouncing off the roll cage inside the car.

Full restrains and a helmet prevent you from becoming a pinball in your own car.

 

about the cage being safer, i am guessing that he is saying that without a helmet or restraints your head or body could be thrusted into the roll cage, thus you would get hurt by that. but on the same token, if you have a cage and 5points i think you'd be okay, i have done installs on many cars with cages and most were street driven, most also had a set of simpsons or the like.

who knows, im sure the subject has grounds for arguing both ways, but i know i feel safer in the cars with the 5points and cage, maybe thats just me???

 

Yep, unless you are in a race seat with 5 or 6 point harness and wearing a brain bucket. With stock 3-point harness you'll probably contact the cage bars in a crash. Roll bar padding won't help much with crash loads, and the bars don't crush sufficiently to help keep your brain from scrambling. It's the hit in the head you need to worry about.

Well said Brook. I've bashed my head on a roll bar before, and that was just getting into/out of the car. &*%# that hurt!!

Yeah, a roll bar will keep the roof of the car from caving in (if it's installed properly), but how many times do people die from roll overs? Usually it's from not wearing a seat belt and bouncing around inside the car or being thrown out of said car and bouncing on the road a few times.

If you are going to get the roll bar/cage, I would advise getting a good set of seats that have the holes for a 5 pt harness. Also, getting a cage with swing out door bars will make life alot easier.

Also, don't plan on using your back seats to carry anything other than a few groceries or small objects with the cage.

 

well I was just trying to follow track rules by me. 11.99 or better require a 6pt cage and 5pt harness.

 

I thought it was 11.99 for a convertable and like 11.49 for t-top/coupe?
