#1 cylinder misfiring? All headers are HOT but i can HOLD header for cylinder #1
#1 cylinder misfiring? All headers are HOT but i can HOLD header for cylinder #1
Just as the subject says i can let the car idle for about 30 seconds and all the headers will be skin scalding hot, but #1 is barely warm. I can grab and hold on to it, its not hot....
It smells rich as hell... I changed the plug... wires are brand new... Im having a BAD hesitation and its missing and backfiring (check my other thread for more BS!)
My left O2 sensor is reading 128 and above (i forgot what measurments these are but 128+ is rich and 127- is lean... left O2 was staying mostly rich while the right O2 was going rich-lean-rich-lean (which is normal from what i have heard)
Whats going on? Is #1 misfiring? not firing at all?

I had a similar problem, turned out to be an injector clogged so severly it stopped putting any fuel out.
I changed wires, plugs, opti, ignition module, and as a last ditch effort pulled the fuel rail, found 5 lbs of rust in the injectors.
good luck.

plugs and wires are new less than 2000 miles. I just changed the plug. I will scan the plug i took out for everyone to look at.
I did a fuel injection cleaner... (makes your exhaust all smoggy and stuff) im guessing its like sea foam? but its called run rite.

well, since you tried everything else, try yanking the fuel rails. it's a little messy, but worth it. Four bolts, be easy w/ the o-rings, you can look straight down into the injector and you can tell what's going on. should see a john deere green colored fine mesh screen inside each injector.
Top of the pic is front of the motor, this is bird's eye view, even on right, odd on left.
Look at #4, had the same exact symptoms you are describing.

Well, i havnt replaced my opti, and im hoping its not that...
But how could it be the fuel when the exhaust smells rich as it is and the left O2 is reading rich on the scanner. But I guess i'll take apart my fuel rail tomorrow... Do i need to replace all the injector o-rings? or just be carful with them and reuse them?

i was careful and reused mine, oiled them up before I reinstalled them.
mine was running rich as hell too, burn your eyes rich, the ecm was trying to compensate for the dead cylinder by throwing more fuel, look at the spark plugs, notice the clogged injectors plug is gray, look at the odd side, see how rich they were burning?

does this plug look normal for 2000 miles? came out of #1 cylinder

looks almost fouled out, like it's not firing. have you smelled it? I know, wierd question, but was wondering if it smells like fuel, or oil or coolant.
If you have any friends around that'll help ya, I'd take the wire off #1, put it on a plug and ground it out, pull the fuel pump fuse, and have someone crank the motor over while you watch the plug to see if it's getting fire.

Anyways, about testing the plug... How do i ground out the plug?
Edit: No i havnt done a compression check, dont have the right tools at the moment
Kind'a looks like the plug isn't even firing. Usually a stuck open injector will drown the plug and cylinder and have a strong smell.
If you rule out all else and suspect the injectors, my shop offers a reasonable price for Injector Service.
