Re: 1 7/8 headers? what is available?

CANTONRACER: I bought a nice set of AFR 210's and upon recieving them I noticed something about my Hooker LT's...the flange opening was 3/10's of an inch to narrow on the exhaust ports.

So I bought some Kook's 1-3/4" stepped to 1-7/8" stainless headers which fit fine.

Pitfalls for me...My Canton oil pan and the low pressure sensor...the sensor is gone. The way my TCI flexplate shield and the headers come down by the drivers side made it impossible for any oil filter I could find to fit. I had to get an oil relocation kit.
I noticed the same thing with my headers (Grotyohann) that the flange opening was smaller than the exhaust port on my AFR 210's. If Kooks had their headers out at the time when I installed the motor, I would have went with them. Do you think there is a significant gain to be had by switching to Kooks headers? I would end up going with the 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 stepped with the 3 1/2 collector and y-pipe.

When I had my Hooker LT's I measured the flange and it had 1.65" height X 1.32" width opening.

When I measured my current AFR 210 exhaust port I have 1.70" height X 1.62" width.

3/10"'s of an inch I would imagine it would hurt performance.

The Kook's are almost dead on.

I think I have decided to go with the kook steped 1 7/8 304 ss header.
Should I have these coated or leave as is?

I would just leave them as is.

Good luck.

Doesn't really matter. They obviously won't rust. The only real advantage to the coating is a little less underhood heat, and they will be shiny.
