1 7/8 headers? what is available?

Ok... I know.. search.. ok.. i did.. didn't find what i was looking for...

1) looks like hedmans ...
2) mac headers
3) Kooks stepped...

but i have yet to see pictures. opinions on installs and what not....

I guess that when i finish up.. i WILL need a bigger set than my ol' hookers 1 3/4.

Recommendations??? pictures??? price range?? will they clear the a/c box???

plug access???

all those things are handy...

I think the only company that makes 4th gen F-body specific 1 7/8" headers is Kooks, so you may not have too many choices.

Hedman is the only one, and they are not A/C compatable.

Hedman's require a manual rack or some customizing of a header tube....so if you are going to customize them to run a factory rack, then you should buy painted headers and then have them coated after the modification of them.

So no 1 7/8 header will fit the lt1 f-body without modification?

They will fit with these mods

Remove A/C

Install manual rack

then they work.

Or do Like we did and have them Modded to fit with factory stuff intact.

imo alot of work for a little more header primairy diameter ..... i guess if the car was destined to have a manual rack and no a/c then it wouldnt be a issue but i wouldnt ditch it just for the minor gain.

Re: 1 7/8 headers? what is available?

I bought a nice set of AFR 210's and upon recieving them I noticed something about my Hooker LT's...the flange opening was 3/10's of an inch to narrow on the exhaust ports.

So I bought some Kook's 1-3/4" stepped to 1-7/8" stainless headers which fit fine.

Pitfalls for me...My Canton oil pan and the low pressure sensor...the sensor is gone. The way my TCI flexplate shield and the headers come down by the drivers side made it impossible for any oil filter I could find to fit. I had to get an oil relocation kit.

You can see some pics here out of the car...Linky

I took out my a/c but I cant see putting in a manual rack just for headers.
I guess I will stick with the LT hookers.I hope they will be enough flow as to not restrict anything.
I hope to be around 450 rwhp N/A and will be adding a 250 shot on top of that.

WHen it comes to cars i try to be as realistic and as practical as possible, i dont live in Jersey where I can idle my race car down to atco or etown. I gotta drive a few minutes less then 2 hours to the nearest track and race, and prey I dont break. This year im getting a trailer! But as I said, I ditched my ac cus I didnt want to put it back in. I have a black camaro with no t tops. if I can live with it, most others can too!

Kooks, hands down. They clear the AC box and plug access is better than most.
