1.6 Crane Gold RR questions
1.6 Crane Gold RR questions
1st question I have is, can I use an older set of Crane Gold 1.6RRs on my LT1, they are 3/8 stud? I tried to install them yesterday and I adjusted them and I herd a noise so I pulled the valve covers off to see that the RRs were not aligned on the valve, but on the retainer. This was only on 3 RR on each side. What could I be doing wrong? Are they to tight or not tight enough? Any advise will be appreciated and before you tell me to do a search, I already have. So if you can help me with my problem please do. thanx again!!
p.s. stock cam, LT4 valve springs, and comp magnum pushrods are what the valve train consist of.

Are you running guide plates. If not are they self-aligning rockers. That might be your problem. If you are not running the self-algin and no guide plates the rocker has a hard time staying on the valve.
What locks are you running. Comp sells special locks that are made for self algin rockers. Make sure you run those. If not the plates that keep the rocker on the valve will pop over the valve. know what I mean?
I'd call comp cams and tell them exactly what springs and rockers you are running. Tell them the problem and that you need the locks that fit self align gold race rockers. they will be alble to help you. I wouldn't buy them through Comp though. After you get the part numbers, check around and find out where the deals are. I like Jegs or a comp out of michigan(Lukovich Performance)

Thanx Ken, by the way, do you have any advise for me, My goal for my LT1 is 10 seconds all motor, naturally aspirated! I seen that you have done it and if you could give me some ideas or suggestions, I would appreciate it! Thanx again
Heads are the key. I had mine done at TEA(total engine airflow). Mine are LT1 castings. Just remember that flow numbers arn't everything. Air velocity is also very important. I did 10's with a 355 with about 11 to 1 comp. hyd roller cam and a turbo 400 trans. My car weighs about 3115 lbs without driver. If you want to drive the car on the street I would go with a big inch motor. I think it would be easier to do it with the bigger cubic inches. Just by increasing the cubic inch you will gain torque. Also the lighter your car is the faster it will go. You know that your drivablity is going to go WAY down the faster you go.
