1 5/8 or 1 3/4

Everyone is telling me that Long Tube headers are only efficient on cars with extreme displacement and great flowing heads/cam.

Has anyone ever seen dyno charts from Mid lengths to Long tubes?

Will I really get the most power from long tube then from any other kind of header?

Ok this is what i gathered when i was looing for a set of headers, i was looking at mac mids or a set of pacesetter longtubes.

I found out that mid length headers can make close or the same amount of horsepower as longtubes.

Mid length headers have better ground clearance and with the mac's you can buy a offroad pipe and use that until you have emissions and then you can just hook up the the y-pipe they include and get a cat put on it so you can pass emissions.

I've heard once you get over 400 rwhp mid's start to become restrictive and i've heard longtubes sound a little better.

Do it once do it right. If you ever talk to the intelligent LT1 guys who race all the time, they will tell you just get some LT's. Since Pacesetters are so cheap just get some of those. Dont waste your time like so many others putting on Mids or shorties just to change them when you know you can always do better with a long tube.

I researched headers for like 9 months, I just couldnt make up my mind. Each had great benefits, power gains, etc. But unless you want to lower your car or have emissions, get LT's. The only time LT's are too big for most LT1's are Kooks. They seriously arent worth the money for what most poeple have done on their cars. Now if you exhaust side flows 250, then get Kooks, but everything else youll be fine with Hookers/Pacesetters/Dynatech/Jethot's.

Ask Darkhorse, he changed out his Mids for LT's, added a E-WP, and 1.6 rockers and gained 4 tenths.

I have dyno graphs showing 25rwhp from SLP mids, which would be about the same as AS&M and RK'sport ones. But I think with LT's you have alot of room for expansion, especially with a cam. Good luck, do it right and do it once.

I would definately recomend doing long tubes. Like said above do it once and do it right. With a set of fully coated long tubes costing a litthe over $500 you can't go wrong. Also 1 3/4 is a good size for a 350ci engine and also will give you room to support future mods, unlike the 1 5/8s youd want to upgrade later on....
