well if your going to put rollers on it then might as well go with the 1.6. it'll add about 15hp. also your going to need to get a lt4 knock module since the so it's dosen't throw your timing off. i gott'em and and i think there great.

was it raining hp somewhere?
did i miss it?
***!

damn, you guys are living large if you can just throw away 15hp
(and i'd guess closer to 10)

edit:

wait-
you can justify a 383 on stock heads but not roller rockers?

383

I mean you can just keep adding and adding and never stop or be happy with the Horsepower, at some point you have to stop. I have spent enough, why is everyone slamming me??

Let me see if I understand this correctly, your gonna spend the same amount of money either way and your choosing less hp out of the equation. 15 hp is better than 0 hp isn't it?

Umm...wait a minute. Are the 1.5's your refering to the stock rockers or were you gonna put roller rockers in and were just asking which to go with I can agree that you can reach a point of over modding a car though, I did that to my other car and I don't want to do it on this one. My current mods will probably be about all I do to it.

not a waste of money, gives you more lift, which will give you more topend hp. Tried and proven, I dunno how much extra hp it'll give you but worth the money for 2 or 3mph in the 1/4
I'm with you I don't wanna over mod a car, But no reason not to wanna run low 13's just for fun :-)

yes yes yes

I dont want a 10-11 second car just a good 13 or maybe 12, and I think the 383 will help.

lol, I don't get this post. 15 hp (or even 10) from going to 1.6 RR is NOT BAD AT ALL. I had Comp Pro 1.52 Magnums on my LT1, but am finishing building my solid roller motor for the '88 and needed these 1.52 rockers. I bought some Crane Blazer 1.6 RR for the LT1, and I don't think I'll see ANY gains. 10-15 hp will be AMAZING I think.

yorie-
i think you need t realize that hp isn't nearly as cheap or as easy to get as the fast and furiour say it is.

the 383 wont help anything with stock heads, intake, manifolds, catback, intake box and i'm going to venture tuning?

trust us-
weve been there and done that.

I did a 383 and added a small stall, 1.6 rockers, 236/242 cam (a GAINT COMPARED TO YOURS), and a host of other parts and probobly gained .7 seconds a second (50 hp worth). This was with headers, catbac, mild tuning and propper gears.

My guess is that my headswill drop me over a second.
if you want a 12 sec car, there are better ways to do it.
there is no way you did a 383 in an LT1 for $500. Simply IMPOSSIBLE if you didn't steal anything.

JUST machine work is that much. I dont think you are looking at LT1 parts. Maybe gen I crank and rods?

no did you build a 383 for $500. no. plain and simple. your machine work, oil pump, coolant, gaskets, oil, filters, bearings, rings, assembly and all are PART of your 383.

(and i dont know if i would call anythign with a $120 "cat" crank in a motor (j/k man ))

All the cheapo cranks (cast) are cast in China and cut over here in the U.s. Whether it scat, cat or CRAP Ha Ha
