Red face 1/4 track results. What a shame!!!

Well,
This was my 1st time running at this track and traction was horrible (for me anyway). Did 3 runs with Nitto DRs set at 15psi for 1st run and then 12 psi for other 2 runs....
1st run. 60ft 2.597 1/8th 9.055 @ 88.87mph....1/4th 13.429@ 113.37mph
2nd run. 60ft 2.395 1/8th 8.827 @ 88.43mph...1/4th 13.209@ 113.28mph
3rd run. 60ft 2.607 1/8th 9.24 @ 87.60mph..1/4th 13.641 @ 112.89 mph

I know these are horrible track results for the amount of power the car has.
But as the old saying goes: All the power don't mean a thing if you can't put it to the ground. Its time for some of those M/T Drs and learn how to be a better driver.
P.S. I did the same launch rpms on the track as I did on the streets. The Nittos hooked like hell on the street, but fell very very short at the track.

Gotta love the trap speeds, but even they will get better with the right traction.

Try bringing your rpm's to 3000 and hold it there. Then when the light turns green, let up on the clutch relatively quick to get the car rolling good. All this time, keep the same throttle position. Once you are moving good you can roll into full throttle.

That should help your 60' time a lot. You are right, your 60' times are terrible, no offense.

Cut those 60' to 2 seconds and you are around mid 12s

I'd suggest a ride along with someone who knows how to drive.

Bad track prep makes up for maybe a tenth slower in the 60'.. your 60's where pretty bad.

Nothing you can't fix with practice. I wouldn't swap drag radials just yet.

There is much to gain on your launch. I run the same 1/8th mile ET as you but almost 10 mph less trap speed (with a 1.95 60' though). Your car has serious *****, just gotta keep it under control at the lights. Practice launching on an empty street.

man get that thing hooking off the line and your times will fall drastically. 2.5-2.6 is horrible! not trying to bust your ***** but you said you were dissapointed, get the tires good and hot and get it off the line and you'll be a lot happier! dont worry about switching tires, i've seen guys cut 1.7s or better on 275 wide nittos. your mph is plenty good for 12s.

Yea you are on the gas way too much off the line. I think my worst 60 foot time ever was a 2.4xx and that is on street tires. I know that I need practice launching and my 60 foot times lurk around 2.2's most of the time with an occasional 2.1xx. You are definitely putting down some power though, thats for sure. Practice your launch.

you spent the money on the motor, now the suspension. Your car has the potential to run in the 11's but that can be a long road of suspension tuning and driving practice. good luck

Yeah I ran a 12.8 at 112, with a 2.3 60', and then a 13.3 at 107 with my car cutting off part way down the track (spun rod bearing) Car should have more init, but I think I messed the car up earlier in the day. Your times should be alot better too. Your car doesn't feel down on power any does it?

Re: 1/4 track results. What a shame!!!

Trap speed is off, some of that may be due to the bad 60' and having to pedal the throttle. I would expect 118mph from around 400rwhp.

Time to invest in some suspension mods...

Re: 1/4 track results. What a shame!!!

Do what ever you can to help those 60 ft times (stick tires, short shift first after the car starts moving, install 9 " and slicks, etc, etc, ) and the car will respond VERY well.

You have the power to run high 11's at 117-118 MPH with a descent 60 ft.

If you can knock .5 off the 60 ft, the 1/4 mile time will be .7-.8 quicker.

Even with a 1.8 60 ft, you should have NO problem running LOW 12's or HIGH 11's. Just imagine a 1.60 60 ft like some of the A4's and 3000 stalls are getting. The cra woudl be a rocket. You are making the power, just get the car to launch better and everything will fall in place.

With a 6 speed and stock rear, a 1.8 to 1.9 might be all we can get but hell, that will still put you around the 12.0 range at 117 MPH or so.

Re: 1/4 track results. What a shame!!!

Your 60ft is the problem why your running 13s and not like at least low 12s!!!!! I dont think i ever ran a 60ft as bad as yours are, but i do have an auto so... Time to look into some suspension or stickier tires. I think you could run better now if you babied it off the time to get at least a 2.0 or 2.2 60.

Re: 1/4 track results. What a shame!!!

Thanks for all the input fellas.
I've got to practice more at the track if I want to see improvements. I obviously spent pretty bad off the line and down the track. I couldn't get traction until 3rd gear. The spectators all said that they heard the car chirping 3rd and 4th gear. I cut a 2.0 60ft at one of the local 1/8th mile track, but I wasn't making the power I am either.
It all comes down to practicing coming off the line. I've already ordered the M/T drag radials. I burnt alot of rubber off the Nittos and they are looking pretty slick right about now. I'm thinking about getting some skinnies up front.

Take Care and thanks for the suggestions.

-Tim
