Who makes 1 3/4 shorties, besides SLP?

Is the SLP installation kit really needed? $70 for
an installation kit is ridiculous!!

AS&M (& RKSport) also make 1.75" shorties.

You do not need the kit, you can buy the stuff locally if you want.

It contains:
Gaskets
Bolts
Heat shields for wires
EGR Tube & gasket

 

I had some serious problems getting my SLP shorties to seal up. Look for a set that has a continous flange across the head side, and a 3/8" flange on the driver's side collector. This is where I had major headaches due to the shape of that flange on dual cat cars.

Unfortunatly, I think they're the only ones who make true bolt-on 1-3/4s so you can pass emitions if you have to. Most others require their own y-pipe.

I did get the gaskets from SLP, but bought grade 8 socket head bolts at the hardware store.

 

I was working on a friends car recently that has SLP shorties. After taking a look at them, I'd never want a set on my car. The exhaust routing sucks, the EGR tube is really in the way, and from what I'm told, plus access sucks *****. And that's ignoring the sealing problems many people have had with them.

Aren't Mac's also 1 3/4"?? Dunno, I went straight to long tubes.

 

Mac's are 1-5/8" for the lt1 cars.

 

Arent the RK motorsports ones AS&M clones? I have seen the AS&M one installed and they looked really nice.

Speaking of EGR tube, my installer repositioned and welded it on my SLP Dual-Cat shorties.

Kinda pi$$ed me off since I had just gotten them coated.

Anyway, they apparently saw the need.

I bought mine bare and had them coated locally.

Also, bought all the installation stuff in A-Market, e.g., fel-pro gaskets, ARP bolts, fire sleeves,etc. Only gaskets I got from SLP were the collector gaskets since the passengers side is different than usual collector gasket.

Probably didn't save on the kit, but believe I have better quality. Besides, I think the SLP gaskets are individual pieces where the FEL-PROs are one piece.JMHO
