1,000 to spend... What to do?!

So my complete list of mods is on my Cardomain site in my sig. But basically I am a 355, h/c, EWP, Full exhaust, Gears, Shifter, car. I have a grand to spend this summer and am torn what to do with it. I don't want to do Nitrous until my car is maxed out NA and I am running 11.3:1 compression so forced induction is out of the question. Here are my choices.

Choice #1

Replace my AS&M midlength headers with Longtubes and an Xpipe.
Esitimated 10-15 RWHP
Pace Setter LT's = $375
Summit Xpipe = $100

Choice #2

Port my stock intake manifold fully and do a 58mm Throttle Body.
Estimated 20 RWHP
Port intake manifold = $250
58mm Throttlebody = $500

Choice #3

GM 847 cam or equivilant custom cam and a retune.(have all supporting mods for this cam installed already)
Estimated 30 RWHP
847 cam = $260
Install = $350
Tune= $400

Any opinions welcome, let me know what you guys think! Thanks

I think you are setting your hopes a bit too high for 20 / 30 rwhp off of those mods. I'd honestly say maybe 30 / 35 rwhp if you do ALL of the mods.

With the mods you allready have stated, I think you would benefit best from digging into the drivetrain. Possibly a set of 3:73's + a transpack?

Chris, nice car, nice parts selection. If it were me, I'd leave the exhaust alone. Having the intake ported sounds like a good idea, maybe 10 HP. Skip the 58mm throttle body and just have yours ported to 52mm, if you haven't already. Had mine done for $150. Also one thing I noticed is that your running an aluminum driveshaft. With a M6 and sticky tires, plus maybe running some nitrous in the future, you might want to get a stronger one. With that said, I would upgrade the cam to whatever takes you to about 6600 peak HP and shift at the computer 7k limit, be it the 847 or a custom grind. Just my thoughts, have a good one.

yeah i agree with Z-rated94 i would take my flow sheet and call AI about getting a cam to go with your heads. they won't have all the info needed about the heads but you know they can get it really close.

Okay cool. So ya'll don't think I'm losin' any hp from my AS&M mids? I have heard they almost flow as good as LT's so that makes sense. I have been torn between a GM847 and a custom grind for a while now. I know the benifits of each. I just don't know what I would do if I put a custom grind in there and i didn't get the numbers I wanted as opposed to the tried and true GM847 which people have seen very good numbers with. Also, since I have domed pistons, do you think I would have a problem with clearance with tht GM847?

The reason why I expect around 30rwhp from my jump from the hotcam to the 847 is simple. I gained over 30rwhp from stock to the hotcam, and going from the hotcam to the 847 is even a BIGGER jump than stock to hotcam. Get it? Plus my heads flow really well in the .550-.600 range which my baby little .525..525 lift hotcam isn't even touching yet. The cam I have in now is pretty small so I expect to see some good numbers by going bigger. Oh "Ruckus", I already have 3.73's

You should get your intake port matched to the heads... Your leaving power on the table.

Toss out that Goober cam and get something bigger in there.

I'd go intake/cam if I were you.

Thats more along the lines that I was thinking Thats definitely the most power combo that I could do this summer. The thing already gets 10mpg, don't even want to know what she will do after I do this! Oh well thats what my daily driver is for, gotta love HONDA

I would look into suspension mods. Looks like you already got the engine.

Do you think it would help? I already have reloc brackets, LCA's, and an adjustable torque arm... Would shocks and springs really help that much? Or like a panhard bar?

If you are really only getting 10mpg I would spend some money to get the car tuned and running right. I have never done that bad, even when I go to the track. I get 15-16mpg worst case, and thats with a cam much bigger than the 847 and a single plane. I've even done 19mpg over a tank which had 7 track passes on it.

Power wise, I would go with a decent custom cam and get the intake ported. If you have the right springs/retainers/locks/rockers etc. you should be able to get it done under 1k.

My vote would be for intake & cam. Go with the 847 if you want to save a little cash, have your intake ported to match the heads and ground out to 58mm. Then grab a 58mm TB, you already have the 1.6 rockers and 918 Beehives so you should be able to just stab the cam in there.

Look in the clasifieds for an extra intake or TB, I bought my BBK here for $125 I think and it came with all of the sensors. Your exhaust and everything else should be good for the amount of power you will get and I think the ported intake, TB, and cam would would be the best bang for the buck.

You are also in Texas and I know there are alot of guys on this forum from Texas so you can probably get some guys together to help you do the cam so you don't have to spend $350 to have it installed, probably some beer and mabye some food off the grille Thats what I'd do it for

Good luck and you have a clean car

I think the reason why i get 10mpg is because i only drive it once a week or so and when I do its basically in the high rpms the whole time if you know what I mean

Haha thanks. I toyed with the idea of doing the cam myself but i think i would get tripped up in the whole "degreeing" the cam thing. I looked up a "how to" on it but it seems like I would def need somebody there that has done it before. Maybe I will, that would be cool if I could save some cash in that area. Thanks for all the replies guys and as always...

I would just put it in the regional forum and I'm sure you could come up with a couple guys that would help you out and they would sure do it cheaper than $350.

Good luck and be sure to let us know what you decide
