.040 over

what do you guys think about boring a lt1 block .040 over for a street motor. i know .030 is common for the street but is .040 too much.

.040" over only if your .030" over is worn out. If you go directly to .040" over then there is not as many rebuilds left in that motor.

I know of a couple of L98 motors running .040" over with no problems. Like was said above you should be fine.

I'm at .060 over and 20 psi boost with no problems. The other guys are right, though. Bore as little as possible. I had to go .060 due to a gouged bore. Starting out with a stock block, I'd go .010 and get custom pistons if it'll clean up.

i have a little nick in the #7 cylinder and pretty sure .040 bore will remove it. i only plan one having the motor for 3-4 years in the car before i switch it out again so as long as it last me that long i'll be fine.

0.040" is no issue at all. Even easy to get pistons for this bore as well.
