02 sensors

question, do you have to replace both sensors when one is bad, my 96 has bank 1 position 2 sensor showing bad. I really don't want to replace both.

Re: 02 sensors

Not a dumb question. I personelly do both whenever one goes bad, that's just me. If the budget doesnt permit it then just do one. One of the members here aggiez28 is selling 2 for 80.

Re: 02 sensors

Bank 1 Sensor 2 is the driver's side, after cat sensor.

A '94 has one cat and 2 O2 sensors. A '96 has 2 cats and 4 O2 sensors; 2 before the cats, and 2 after the cats. The after cat sensors are used only to tell the PCM if the cats are functioning properly (for OBD II required predictive failure).

If you want to be sure the sensor is bad, just swap the two after cat sensor locations and see if the code changes to Bank 2 Sensor 2. If it does, replace the bad sensor; no need to replace both. If the code stays the same, start looking for other causes (ie: wiring)

FYI: Pre cat and Post cat sensor use different connectors. If you buy a used sensor, make sure you get the right one.

Thomas.

Re: 02 sensors

Im not sure what your emissions are like down there. But you could get them o2 sensors tuned out and not have to worry about them anymore. If you have a tuner in the area.
