LOUD tapping noises coming from the engine, Oil Pressure is at 0.
just happened now, I pray its something in the heads so that I do not have to tear into the whole engine. I feel sick... any ideas of what it could be?

 

ummmm I think you spun a bearing! Thats what happenend to mine when I spun a bearing.

Unfortunately I vote the same. I have done this before. Sounded the same. I felt just as sick.

 

Just go ahead and take the pan off to save you time.

Unfortunately even if the heads were the cause of the tapping, they wouldn't cause your oil pressure to be 0.

 

Another vote for Bearing; as previously stated zero oil pressure = hurt lower end, .

 

Could be the oil pump driveshaft that rides the cam under the intake manifold. That's what mine was on my 396 LT1.
0 oil pressure, etc. Changed it out and everything returned to normal.

Sorry to hear about that,how many miles were on the motor?Were you beating on it?

 

You could have a mouse with a hammer in there. lay a cheese baited trap on the intake overnight and wait.

 

na, I wasnt beating on it, I dont really race. I gun it every once in a while on a freeway onramp. I've been driving it maybe 100 mile s a week on average. It had less than 10,000 miles on the 383. I had a high idle problem for the last few month, maybe the IAC, never really solved it. But thats about it, I changed the oil very often with mobile 1 and k&n oil filter... bla what a sick feeling, time to start saving pennies, maybe get a LSx engine in there or somethin... I dont know, we'll see, thanks for the replies.
