***header install*** - wont start!...any ideas?

ok so i had a rough time getting my headers in prolly worse then anyone. but anyway everything finally made it on. i go to start it and it cranks over and back fires and shuts off. (striaght out the headers). i tried 3 more time and it would crank over again. any ideas? i dont have the 02 sensors in or the intake elbow, MAF or the CAI in. The drivers side erg out the header isnt in either. i thought it would start tho still.....hmmmm....what you guys think?

Sometimes the car will stumble and die w/o the o2 sensors plugged in.

I hooked up EVERYTHING before I started it...o2's are on, all EGR/AIR tubes are connected and clamped down.

Sounds to me like your plug wires are out of order. From what you described I have had that happen before to me with my bros truck.

My car did the same thing with the elbow off, don't worry about it. Get it all back together again and I bet it fires up just fine!

Exactly. Finish re-installing the intake/MAF. My car would turn over, but not fire without the MAF connected.

Actually if you unplug the MAF it will start, but it will be in a limp mode with limited power. It is designed this way to get the vehicle home in case the MAF goes out...

If you have it pluged in and not hooked up to the TB then your car does not see any airflow and it has trouble starting...

Just unplug the MAF and try to start it, this is the way I clean my TB, I just unhook the MAF and take the elbow off and it runs fine, and just doesn't have a good tune that way...

He's got a '96 and I'm assuming he's got OBDII. It WON'T start without the MAF connected.

Good to know, I guess that is another benefit to the OBD-I's
