$500 and I'm in the 12s!!

I was shocked yesterday! Trailored my car down to Darlington Int. Dragway in SC. My state Camaro club rented it for the day. Well, as the temps rose to mid 90s...I was expecting a HORRIBLE day at the track. ESPECIALLY it being my third trip to a track and the FIRST trip to a 1/4 mile track.

Well...first time down it goes 13.1 @ 104.94mph! Not bad I'm thinking. Put the belt back on and she runs 13.4 @ 103.23...ok...that didn't work. A few more runs in the 13.1 - 13.2 range and I let her sit for an hour or so with ice on the intake.

Take it back, dump at 4K and the timeslip reads:
1.92 60'
8.34 1/8 @ 84.61
12.98 1/4 @ 105.60

Woo hoo!! Not bad for an LT1 with shortys, flowmaster off y pipe, CAI and some PCM tweakin' and weight loss. It was rather sad seeing an equally modded LT1 with AFR heads and a NASTY cam running 13.3s!! I guess being a cheapskate ain't so bad?

Thanks! I was really expecting mid 13s or so...since my 1/8 mile best was 8.7 prior to this trip. I was VERY surprised...almost thought I was getting the wrong timeslips, lol.

Awesome, those are great times. Thats what these cars should be running, I see so many LT1 cars with so much done running horrible e/ts, but I think that has more to the driver and traction than any thing. Hook what you got before you get some more.

Yea, Neil...that's what I say. I see these nice cars with cams and heads and I'm thinking...OH MAN. Then I see them run and I'm like WTF!?!? I believe you need to run it with each mod until you cut the ET and then mod it more. I see way too many people throw $2000 in a car and run terribly bad considering what they should run. And traction is a big thing...forgot to mention that the ET streets were GREAT!!

Yea, except that one 13.4 pass. Take it off, run it twice and put it on and let it idle then cool off and run again.

$503 total...of course, there's probably some miscellaneous stuff that will bump that up, but still. Buy used...save money!

I'm gonna do RRs and springs and new lifters here soon, as well as buying some used Centerlines and ET Streets/Fronts. So...we'll see what I can do with $1500+/- in mods!
