$4000 to spend, what to do????

I want to do some engine work to my car. I dont know how to do anything, but a cousin of mine does and I will get the labor done cheap from him. I was wanting to know what I should get, or what people think I should do.

I have been reading about the lt4 conversion and it looks neat, but everyone keeps talking it down cause it does not provide the 425hp as advertised. I am pretty sure I want N/A hp, and I wanted to get new heads, cam, and a new intake........or I hear that i should just send the heads/intake to get ported and buy a new cam/rr's. I want my car to be for daily driving......not just for the track. So if anyone can tell me other items that may go out as a cause of the new added hp, that would be helpful! Thanks.

with 4 k...you can do a **** load of things....
if i was you..id stroke the engine...thats the best way to get N/A out of your engine...
cam, lifters, springs, pushrods, roller rockers = 150-300$
heads = 1200=2000$
intake= 100-200$
54-58 TB = 100-200$
full exhuast = 800-1000$
new gaskets etc etc = 100-200$
there are numerous things
TURBO CHARGER or SUPER CHARGER...
if i had 4k i would go with a turbo....6-10 psi nothing big, unless you build your engine that way..
randy
more people will give you thier info..

I have not counted out Superchargers or Turbo's. I just figured that it would be out of my league...in money terms. I also thought that there would be a lot of items that would break if i put either one of those systems on my car. If you have any links to turbo kits i could get, and the other misc items i'd need to do it please hook me up.

Someone said stroke my motor? Any good sites I can go to in order to get the parts i need? Thanks for the hlep so far, but please keep it commin!

IMO 4K would be a budget stroker. I would personally stay away from that. You could probably do it, but you might have to compromise quality parts

I'd go for what you mentioned.
A nice set of AFR heads - a hotcam kit - new exhaust from the engine back - ported intake.
Throw in a 12 bolt for added protection and you'll be spent.

Lucky dog.

You've got the cash so make sure (if you haven't already) to beef up the suspension/traction. Springs, shocks, strut tower brace, control arms panhard and anti-roll bar. Most of this is pretty easy to install on your own. Good tires will be a big plus with all those horsies too.

Lucky bastard

Man, 4k huh? just like they all said, get a good cam, you said daily driver, and I have the Comp Cam 305, w/ long tubes it makes great power. It also is very drivable. Or I have heard good things of the Comp Cam 230/236 cam, you can order those new from www.thunderracing.com (no personal experience with the 230/236 cam though). It'll make more power than the CC305, but it'll be a little less drivable. Then find a good head porter and get your heads custom ported for your cam, don't just throw parts together. Of course, get all the bolt ons - Cold Air intake, 52mm TB, Long tube headers, 3" exhaust, etc etc, and get it tuned and you'll have a 430-450 fly wheel hp beast (depending on which cam you choose, and of course a TON of other things effect power output). And then have some money left over for suspension parts, and you'll probably need a new clutch and eventually get a 12 bolt or 9" rear end, but those can be pretty costly. You'll have a very fast car after 4k is spent right on it.

$4k can be spent in a number of ways... what are your goals for the car? do you want a disgusting amount of power? do you want to handle better? also, do you have any mods already? I couldn't tell you what to get as I don't have any experience with these cars yet. but with $4k there's definately alot of options open to you.

I wouldn't go the blower or turbo route because 4k would just be the start of what you would have to spend, Trust me. Like some others have said I would do a full port job on your stock heads and cam, Headers, Exhaust and any money left over maybe clutch and suspension work.
