It took me about 3.5 hrs pulling it out the bottom with an engine hoist. I think if i was at a shop i could do it in about 2.5 hrs with a lift and more help. So i would think 3hrs to pull it. 3 hrs to swap stuff over to the new motor and put it on the k-member and then 3 hrs to stick it back in. So about 9-10 hrs. I thought most shops charge $50-75 an hour so thats real high as i see it.

Re: $1500 just to install motor?!

I just removed my engine and tranny a couple weeks ago and It took me 4hrs. This is the first time Ive removed the engine/trans in this car so it was very new to me. I removed it from the top, which I hear is harder, however it was easy enough for me.

If you can do it yourself I would defiantly suggest doing it. It costed me a total of 60 bucks to remove the engine because I had to keep the hoist for 2 days instead of 1 because I forgot to get an engine stand before the stores closed.

The engine is now on an engine stand and is going to be going to the machine shop here in a week.

FYI, Most all shops use labor book time, not what it should take to do an engine.. Book time on this job is around 20 hours..

$1600 here but I got it done by a Mustang shop, so the morale of the story make sure that the people doing it are familiar with the car, it goes 10X faster.
