$1500 just to install motor?!

Thats the best offer I got around Wilmington, NC.

What should the going price be just for removal and installation.
I'm not too worried about it, because I got a deal to have 400rwhp 355 installed w/less than 1k on it for $2150.

I'd just like to know how much installation should cost..

Considering the headaches, that's not a bad price - a tad on the high side, but he's not raping you.

I paid $1400 to F-Body Central in Baltimore for a longblock R&R.

I think it is around 20-22 hours for a R@R on these cars. Also depends on if it is a shortblock or longblock.

Re: $1500 just to install motor?!

hey man, if u want the best advide do it yourself, its really not that hard to pull a motor and put the new one in, just takes a little time, u could pull a motor in as little as 2 hours, take off just a few things, unbolt the tranny and pull it, then swap the asscessories and put in, 3 or 4 hours a day and it'll be done in a week, if u are car-illiterate than buy a haynes manual lol but seriosuly its not that hard man, quick advice though, on that new motor of yours, make sure u put the oil pump driveshaft in from your old motor or make sure theres on in, otherwise u wont have that engine long lol

Re: $1500 just to install motor?!

I think sometimes we forget that although a lot of us may want to do it at home, some of us live in apartments and don't even have underground parking or a garage. Some need their cars to get to work, some don't have someone that can drive them around when they screw up with something like a motor install. Most people don't even have all the right tools to do this a removal in 2 hours!
I'm sure almost everyone here would want to do it yourself, but rarely does that opportunity arise for most people

Re: $1500 just to install motor?!

I agree. I live in an apartment. I have a parking lot to do it in, but I know I'm lacking tools. I have a basic 144pc set of craftsman, 6 jack stands, 1 jack, and thats about it. I don't even have a torque wrench.

To add to this, my roommates car broke too. I already lost my job at Circuit City cause I couldn't get a ride on time.

Re: $1500 just to install motor?!

1500 is highway robbery. Before I knew anything about cars, (well, mine) I payed $450 for a shop to R&R the motor. I thought that was a fair price. They did a good job too, and only had the car for 4 days.
