Question $1000 budget....what to do?

Hey guys, I have a 94 LT1 and 4L60E that are both going into a 73 Nova. When I get the engine and trans out of the car, I'd like to do a few upgrades. I will have longtubes and true duals with 40 series flowmaster muffs. This engine will not have to pass the sniffer so thats not an issue.

I have 1K to play with. I was thinking of a cam and spring kit, but unsure of what to get. I was also thinking of a converter for it as well. I am building this car to be my daily driver for next year.

Just for refrence, it will have the stock rearend and tires from the Camaro on the Nova as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

The Hotcam kit would probably be your best bet with the budget you have.

Joe, get the project together first, and then see what kind of money you have left to play with. If it were me, I'd figure out a way to change out those big ugly bumpers that started in 73. Don't take me wrong, Novas are one of my favorite cars, but a set of fiberglass replacements in the earler style painted to match the car would be sharp and cut some weight. After that see if you have traction. If you do, go with a good converter, shift kit, and trans cooler. Get the some of the basics out of the way before you start digging into the engine.

I'd like to do that, but I hear nothing bad about the original LT1 heads. All they need is a little port work/matching and should be good to go.

I've thought long and hard about this cam. I have a few freinds that have this cam and they do good. Don't get me wrong, but I personally want a decent sounding cam.....it's more to my liking. I like the potato-potato sound like I've always had in my other cars........thats why i'm wanting the stall converter.

LOL! Yeh, those are some honkin' bumpers right?!! Thats ok tho, I have more plans for this car than the regular ole feller, and the bumpers will be one of the fist things to go.

In my opinion, I personally don't think traction will be a problem. The plans I have for this Nova are monsterous. To make this short, I will be taking ALL of the suspention from the front and rear of the Camaro and swapping it all over to the Nova. Therefore I will be using the wheels and tires that are on the Maro which are 17x10ish Konig Monsoons. Besides, traction isin't an issue at the moment......I have a motor to install.

As for the trans cooler, I will be using the original AC condenser from the Nova I have modified for the Turbo 350 trans. I'd bet money that it works good. I also have access to be able to do computer programming and that will be a place to get firmer shifts. I can also go into this tranny myself and do internal upgrades/shift kits if need be.

I just want this to be a good DD with a nice thumpy idle that runs decent and DOSENT have any problems.

Thanks for the ideas guys! Keep em coming!

Joe

BTW.....here is a pic of one of my past Nova projects I did while I was still in high school........http://www.chevynova.ca/4x4/pictures.html

Sounds like you have a good outline for the car. Good luck and keep us up to date.
