With $10,000 how fast could I run??

If I had 10 grand to spend on making my car jsut plain stupid fast, how fast would it pull the 1/4 mile?
I figure that I would need forced induction of some kind, and suspention, and lots of internal. but thats lots of money to throw at an engine.
My guess was at least and 11s 1/4 mile.

You could get a really good Nu-Tek engine for that price. Keep in mind that the extra power will require you to upgrade your rearend, suspension, driveshaft and transmission. If you supercharge you will probably want to get a F.A.S.T. computer. You'll end up spending around $20,000 to $25,000 for everything not including installation.

Put it all on paper, it adds up fast. 12 bolt, 15x10" or whatever for slicks, etc etc

11s is nothing, you could do that for less than your stated price.

You could buy a brand new superbike, do 10's, get over 30mpg and get more money back on resale... But what fun would that be?

You can get a solid forged motor and a 200-shot for that and get well into the 10s.

Do you HAVE $10G to throw at your car or are you just looking for more ammunition for arguing with guys like Tony (Mr5oh) on the Canadian Mustang site?

10 grand doesnt include buying the car does it?

as long as it doesnt u should easily be able to hit 10s

you could do weight reduction, get a 12 bolt, build a strong motor, spray it hard, then the suspension/drivetrain goodies u could use, and make sure most of what u do, you do atleast in part by yourself to cut down on labor

getting the 10-15 grand is the hard part for these lil fun projects

read the very first word that I wrote in this thread
tony said it would take at least 15k to break the 11 sec border, that 5k for internal engine and 5k for forced induction wouldnt be enough money to get low times. that got me thinking, well hell I dont have any idea what a LT1 could run wiht 10k thrown at it. so I thought I would ask some people that could give me an educated guess. I assume your his buddy from peg with the Fbody.

He's a dumbass. $10K for 11s? Maybe for his mustang, but certainly not an LT1. If you want stupid fast here's my $10K suggestion for an M6:

Forged 383 short block: about $3500
Headwork: about $1500
12-bolt: $2K
N2O Cam/valvetrain parts/clutch: $1500 (generous side)
Good 150 shot of nitrous: maybe $1K for a superb (and safe) setup
Tuning: a couple hundred
(add 2-3 grand for a built auto/good converter)

Granted, this is a stretched budget, but nevertheless you'll do tens all day long. It's been done quite a bit already. And that shortblock will take you a hell of a lot further if you want to.

First off Tony meant $15G cdn.

That includes suspension, headers, exhaust, PC programming, tires, etc.

Dropping a stroker into a stock suspension and tire car will not give you 11s.

On the stock suspension with my stroker I was running on average 12.8s @114mph.

After lots of suspension work I'm at 11.94@115mph.

Secondly, I'm ONE of Tony's Fbody friends from the Peg.

Fast Caddie: Forged 383 for $3500?? From who?

Most guys with strokers on this board spent over double that.

Mine was $12,000 cdn

That doesn't include the price of the Hooker Long Tubes, True Dual exhaust, 3200 high stall, shift kit, Ed Wright programming, Cold Air intake, suspension parts, and tires.

Well i have 7- 8k in my motor, but have not had a chance to dyno or run it yet. Guessing 500hp@12-14psi with a good tranny and rear/slics 10.9s should not be an issue with a good 60ft. I could have got there alot cheaper if it was not a daily driver with ac/ps.....Forged 383 for 3500 no problem.

Is that including bolt ons like your headers, exhaust, tires, suspension etc?

What is the total cost?

By doing a quick rough addup,i have about 6-6500 in my car and it runs 11.2's with a 150 shot. Stock heads/cam/intake/tbody.
I also included my rollbar in that price.
With 3500-4k more,it'll be a solid 10 sec car with a 150 shot,and somwhere in the 11's n/a with stock rods/crank/pistons.

SO yes,i say 10's can be done for 10k,if you shop wisely and do as much work as you can.

Also,i went 11.25@119 1.51 with a MOSTLY stock suspension. frame connectors,8 pt rollbar,QA1 front shocks/springs,and Spohn LCA's......still had the stock torque arm.
