$10,000 to build new setup...

Currently I have an all motor lt1 running 11.84 at 114.7, getting 18mpg, daily driven 80 miles/day. A guy is wanting to buy my car and I'll start a new project. I'll have right at 10k to spend, including buying the car. I love lt1's and am looking at building another lt1 setup. If I do it'll have a FLP tranny, since I need reliability. I want something more reliable than I have now(even tho its pretty damn reliable), faster, and still get 18+mpg. What should I do? Forged 355 w/ heads/cam/nitrous, blower, turbo, build something other than an lt1? I'd be willing to put an lt1 into a lighter car if I could find one cheap that I liked.

You want the most fun and still be in a f-body that handles better than any fourth gen? Get a Thirdgen camaro and throw a lt1 in it. Thats what I did, hella fun .

Thats crossed my mind. My old 3rd gen was fun, but I'm not really wanting to go back to another one. I don't care much about how it handles, I mainly what a street beast for street racing.

Well, their a bit lighter than thier fourth gen younger brothers, not to mention the under hood room rocks. If you had an 82 I can understand why, im not a fan of the old ones, the 90-92's are the best IMO, plus they just look mean . Just a suggestion .

Nothing was wrong with the way the 82 looked or handled.(17k was invested in that car to make it a killer on the road course) I'm just not looking to get back in a 3rd gen.

ugh....hood is nice, paint is nice

graphics and rims look hideous!!!

i say step up to an LS1, with traction, a lid and cutout you can run 12's to start with.

should be able to find one for under $10k, and have some $$ left for mods

Too bad I can build a fully forged all motor lt1 making over 400rwhp that can take a 200 shot with ease for less. I'm considering an ls1, but I just don't see it cost effective compared to the lt1. Seems 3rd gen is what people want me to build though.

Nothing wrong with an 82 thirdgen!!

If you are looking for another project, find a beat down 1st gen then stick a 400+ ci fuel injected small block in it..

If you are looking to go fast and be different, put a v8 into a smaller car a'la 944 or fiero..

Not sure what clasifies as street beast but you seem to already have one.. How about a big block powered monte carlo??

Don't build what people want you do build. Do what you want. I was really only joking about the LS6. I would do the LT1 as well. A stout LT1 in a 3rd Gen would be very nice!

That was one of my original plans. I've got Lloyds heads/cam now and I love them, and I figured with a bigger cam and some spray I could keep my rear gear lower/smaller stall and get better gas mileage, have a faster/more reliable car(hoping high 11's on motor/mid 10's on spray).

I'd love a first gen with an lt1, but I don't think it'd be faster than what I have now. If my car sells, I'm going to build something faster/quicker than I have now and keep it a daily driver(80 miles/day).

Another one of my original plans was a bradley gt II kit car with an lt1. It's completely different, I've never seen one on the roads around here, and they can be bought cheap. It would only weigh about 1900lbs with the lt1 so I figured a mild 330-350rwhp all motor setup would be plenty. Only problem is the engine is rear mount and apparently the front end likes to come off the ground at 100+mph with the v6's in them. To me that would be a big problem, because I want to have 125+mph traps.

My other thought was an lt1 in a jeep cherokee. With an lt1 and the two door model, I could get it to weigh around 2600-2800lbs. SBC's go in them fairly easy, but I haven't looked at how much fabbing I'd have to do for the transmission. It'd be a fun sleeper.

Mainly I want to be different, and build a daily driver sleeper. Keep the ideas coming though.
