so would a firebird/formula wing be better? i have a ws6 and like the look of the formula wing more..... don't know if it would be worth it though

hhmm...as far as i saw it, i thought there would need to be less rake at a greater speed to create the same downforce because of the existing air force that would be exerted on the wing at higher speeds. i figured the greater the force exerted on the spoiler, the less surface necessary for the wind to come in contact with to retain the same amount of downforce in comparison to lower speeds where, i thought, a larger rake on the wing would be necessary to create the same amount of downforce.

so, in my beliefs, an adjustable spoiler that had a larger rake at lower speeds, and then subtlely dropped its angle slightly as the car reached higher speeds would be awesome....but maybe i got the whole thing backwards.

ah well...

for any sort of normal purposes....probably won't make a difference...but that's just my opinion.

well, thanx for this input,

some cars has adjustable spoiler like porsche ... thats mean its important in any sport car!..

i think even Z28's spoiler doing well in hi-speed .. every single bolt in the car would be useful!

Well thats right and wrong... The rake of the wing and how it would help depends on the aerodynamic profile of the vehicle. For example the Murcielago is VERY slippery and hence the only rear spoiler it has is a tiny lip spoiler that pops up and has a decent rake. Your rear downforce is not only determned by the rear wing, because depending on the shape of the car the air may never even get there to have an effect. SO yes in effect the same downforce can be created with a smaller spoiler with less rake depending on ther aero profile on the car, but theres a certain point you can go no further down in rake or you will create lift (which is obviously bad lol).

Your last idea was available on the Mitsu 3000GT VR4, they called it Active Aerodynamics and basically the front lip and rear spoiler would tilt forward under acceleration. Supposedly it broke alot... lol

Dont bother, you wont gain anything performance wise, and besides the fact taking the TA wing off is like clipping its *****...

The wing on the camaro, would create very little downforce, just because the air at the base of the rear window is so turbulent. Most sports cars with little wings seem to have a similar problem.

I read a comparo about wings for the SN-95 Mustangs... Apparently the OEM GT wing begins to create lift at around 130 mph, and the OEM cobra, contributes no downforce at all (just drag). I would imagine that studying any OEM wing would have a similar finding on all but the most elite supercars.

From the way my car feels at speed, I would be more inclined to find a chin spoiler/splitter, then worry about the rear wing.

Since people are discussing wings on other vehicles, I did not see anyone mention the vehicles that had one of the best spoilers in history. The Dodge Daytona and the Plymouth Superbird. These cars had spoilers about 2 feet high and were taller than the car. These spoilers by being huge worked very well with the car. I just didnt want people to forget about those two spoilers.

...worked because the wings were dealing with air that wasn't being disturbed by the aerodynamics of the car....yes?

yeah, for my car...if i ever got a wing, it would just be the SS wing, and to actually help with downforce, i would look into controlling the air going under the car, or coming around the front of the car....

I'm sure the Z28 with the factory "sports appearance package" with ground effects and the added spoiler is the best setup.

..........how do I know? Ahh, page 2 of my sig!!!
(I know my car felt pretty stable even at ~160 mph!! )

Basically... and they also worked in conjuction with a spoiler under the front nose.

One of the best aerodynamic devices is a belly pan, such as ferraris etc have. A flat bottom car with some channels to let the pressure out from underneath will have TONS of downforce. Thats been Lamborghinis trick for many years...

doesn't the g35's have something along those lines engineered into the belly of their cars? maybe not something as thorough, but following the same sort of guidelines....
