Z28 and SS...what changed the hp?
Bottom line:
The BASE SS is an apperance package and bigger wheels and tires.
for performance, if you have a base SS, you have acess to options not available to Z28 owners from the dealer, most notibally, a cat-back exhause and up-graded susspension (yes, I'm oretty sure that the BASE SS and Z28 have the SAME susspension). The Z28 is in almost EVERY WAY as capable as the SS.
Having said that...if I had the $$$$$ i would buy the SS because it is one of the few cars on the road that looks (to me) both mean as hell and classe, with a 350-HP LS1 to back its' image up!
If you want great performance and something to make you look unique and turn heads, the SS can't be beat for a muscle car.
If you want all out ***** to the wall capable performance at a performance to dollar ratio that simply can not be beat anywhere in the world and have my ailement: "working mans blues", the base, stripper Z28 (I paid $21,000) simply cannot be beat. Personally, I plan on adding the SS hood and spoiler in a few years after the car is paid off, I LOVE the look of the SS

okay this has been brought up a hundred times. The whole idea of the SS, is so Chevy can have something to call the ultimate model. Even though its not so great. The spoiler and the hood are nice, i even went ahead and added the hood on my Z28, but the point of the matter is the exhaust on both cars is still subpar even if the SS has a so called better exhaust, the ram air on Camaro's is far inferior to that on TAs. 17 inch wheels are slower cause theyre heavier. And finally the suspension is stiffer. Yay!!! Now i can feel the bumps even worse for handling improvements that arent even noticeable in everyday driving. Save yourself $3500 and stick with the Z. Its only listed .2 faster in 1/4. You could do less than 1k of mods and get into the 12s. Especially if you go with a 3600 rpm torque convertor. I dont get it, these threads just have these same facts repeated over and over again. You know for once I would like to see a new thread comparing regular TAs with the WS6. Just like the SS is a Z28 SS the WS6 is a TA WS6.

Z28 vs. SS is a matter of personal preference. Anyone who tries to justify all of the additional cost by citing additional performance is kidding themselves. However, if someone wants to pay for the SS appearance, I say more power to them.
I think GM really never got it right, they should have made the SS option WU8 include the LS6 engine......then it would be perfection!
Having owned both a Z28 and SS, I perfer the SS just for the looks. It had nothing to do with in-line performance. Just "wow" factor.
