Post Z28 -98 vs vette 71

Hi guys.

What to expext in this case?
My vette from 71 (LT1)had stock (i think 330 hp).some small modifications where done so maybe a little more hp.
Read that this vette from 1971 with the LT1 engine would do 0-60 mph in 6.0 sec, is that true?
I know that its an old car and that this Z28 is a new one but anyway tell me guys!
The handling , ofcourse much better but the engine and so on...

Regards /Nellie

330hp was the rating at the time.. a 300hp car now is a 400hp car then

the whole net vs gross HP thing is something alot of the musclecar guys forget

I know plenty of 3xxhp cars putting down 180-240hp at the tires All from the great muscle car era

Um, I hate to break it to you, but that's not enitrely true. A 435 horse 427 back then is about a 500 horse Rat now. Also, what kind of shape is your friends Vette in?

You will hand him his ***.

My friend has a 71 Vette LT-1, with an ignition, intake, and carb. He got spanked by my 94 LT1 Camaro(buslengths on the highway from a 60 roll), and it was about 35rwhp less than my 98 Formula.

No worries, you will win

No times or dyno with the boost...

Unfortunately for your buddy your going to kill him. The old muscle cars are a joke as compared to todays F-bodies, vettes, etc.

Older muscle cars are a joke unless you're talking about LS6 70 Chevelles, Yenko Camaros, etc.

Tell that to my dad after you catch up with him at the finish line when he's driving his '69 Mustang Mach I 428CJ. Of course, I'd take a GM over a Ford any day; but he car is very bada$$.

In 1972, SAE standard rating from horsepower was changed from gross to net. The actual power the engine made remained the same, the rating changed just as Phantom said. You will take his money.

We're talking stock motors with a few mods here, not a built race engine.I can think of very few Muscle Car era rides that run low 13's with the original engine and bolt-ons.

You know why? I have the list of the 50 fastest muscle cars and I can tell you why - because all the 1/4 numbers you see are run on stock tires. Even the ZL1 Camaro was listed at 13s when it could actually do 11s.

Check out the list here:
