Is a Z06 cam really worth it???
I dont understand the description.
DESCRIPTION: Camshaft "Gen 3" Hot Cam
The "Gen 3" (RPO-LS6) engine is used in all 1997 and later Corvettes, and 1998 and later Camaro/Firebird vehicles. This camshaft is comparable to the LT4 hot camshaft but for your LS1 engine. This kit includes 16 LS6 valve springs P/N 12565117.
I dont think it is correct.

That sounds correct to me. I think that specs are the exact same as the LT4 Hotcam but this one is for the the LS1. That is the one I have and am extremely happy with it. I bought the cam and had it installed for 400. Not too bad at least I don't think so.

why is the hotcam package so much cheaper on www.gmpartsdirect.com compared to everywhere else?
The hot cam sounds like the way to go...
I did run another LS1 6 speed similiar to mine, only difference was he has the LS6 cam and i still outran him by like 2 car lengths, this was motor to motor. Id rather start with heads the then a cam, mabey beef up the pistons and vavles while your there...

I had this cam for a while. Considering the work to put a cam in, I think I would have bought a used comp cams grind rather than the ls6. It really leaves some low and midrange power on the table. There are alot of cams that will idle stock, or close to stock but make much more useable power. (Ie. MTI Stealth Cam, Old Man Cam, TR220 with quiet exhaust). However, for the price the ls6 cam is a bargain if you can't afford more.. Most gain 2-3 tenths and similar mph. The hotcam will make more lower end, but has more bark than bite. Drivability is sacrificed when it really doesn't need to be. For some this won't be a problem, but just throwing in my opinion.. Good luck with whatever you do!!
Cheers,
