Re: Which year is the best for an LS1

why does everyone say its a crappy cam? because its specs show it to be a smaller grind? that alone isnt enough to label something crappy IMO..

I want a cam that provides power all around.. and guess what.. The cam in my 2002 does. so call it what you want.. fact is, it has plenty of power all around.. low range.. got it, mid range? plenty.. top end, she pulls hard still.. never lacks for power and yes I am bone factory stock.. i refuse to mod.. why? because once you have modded and realize that you arent getting anything good out of modding, why do it? Fact is, for 30K there isnt a factory stock car that will beat me.. so why should I mod?

I will remain happy with my fast car.. sure there are others out there with faster cars..but there will always be faster cars...

point is.. get the car you find and that you like.. I prefer my 2002 and wouldnt want anything else right now except for an LS2 GTO...

Ok, I now understand and agree with what you were saying. I read this," I'd rather have a '98-'00 with 3.23's then a '01-'02 with 2.73's." and thought you meant the 01-02s only had 2.73's.

Even then, its easy and cheap enough to get 3.73's, and there are still some pretty quick cars running 2.73's.

02, 01, 99, 00, 98. That's my opinion of the best to worst. The 02's and 01's are basically identical, but they made more of them so really the advantage is they'd be easier to find with low low miles. The reason I like the 99 better than the other 2 years is because of the rims if you got an SS, the 99's didn't have faulty oil pumps and other 1st year production glitches, and the 99 blocks can tolerate a small overbore. Really, it's all a matter of which one is in the best condition and personal preference.

Like what was stated before, get a car with the Best Miles, Condition, options, and in the price range you want. Look long and hard, because there are some very nice low mileage cars out there, you just have to dig sometimes, and not accept the first car you see.

Don't be afraid to pay a bit more for a well maintained car...
It could save you a ton of money later

Also, keep in mind, you're buying a used car.
Unless its under an extended warranty (Or factory if it was an 02 that was on the lot a long time.), have at least $500 ~ 750 on tap for the little things you may have to fix.

Good luck.
