Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Which year is the best for an LS1
the 02 probably...came with the most hp
the 01/02 are nice due to having the LS6 intake and no egr.
maybe see if you can track down one with the LS6 block too.

Personally, I'd go with wich ever one was in the best shape for the best deal. For the price diff between a 98 and 02, mod the 98 and outrun the 02. It all depends on what you want to do. Just a bolt on only car, I'd probably go 01-02. If you're going to mod it further, it doesn't matter.

Buying a car based on the gears,WTF? The gears can swap out no problem, and should be, IMO. I went from the 3.23's to 3.73's and WOW, big diff. Just get one that you like, forget the year, the BUG will take over and the year wont matter.

check out the years of cars and gears in the sigs in this thread:

One guy was runnin 11.94 w/2.73's.

Re: Which year is the best for an LS1
98's have crappy headlights
98's have a different gas tank
98's have a working temperature guage
99's have the "best" cam ... if you can really say its the "best"
i believe it was 2001 when they switched over to much much much better exhaust manifolds, they're almost like shorties but not quite.

98-00 are the SAME for f-bodies. it was the 00 Vette (not f-body) that had the more agressive f-bodyish cam (lobe sep is different). Not that it mattered.

LS1 or LS6 block?
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showpo...86&postcount=8
Read the bottom lines, "Its generally accepted from most engine builders that if your going for an extreme setup that the LS1 block offers more structural strength over the LS6 block.
THE LS6 BLOCK DOES NOT INCREASE HP, REPEAT AFTER ME "IF I HAVE AN LS6 BLOCK IT DOES NOT INCREASE POWER". LEARN IT, SAY IT, REPEAT IT."

People were discussing which year to purchase for the most HP and I added my two cents that I'd be more concerened about gears then HP if you want to purchase an A4 car with the most acceleration stock for stock.
