X or H pipe...

ok guys.. i was wondering why you would have to have an x or H pipe with true duels..... the reason i asked this.. is because i've seen a picture of the new GTO from pontiac and from what i heard it has a 350 horse LS1 motor..... and the underside picture i saw.. the thing had completely true duels all the way back.. with no X or H pipe from the factory... i've read that a few of you had true duels with no crossover pipe.. and was wondering why it would have to be there......

it does not have to be there, the x-pipe will make more power because it will help it flow more. it all has to do with the exhaust gases and when the come out, they come out at different times from each side and cylinder of the engine and the x-pipe will help to pull them out faster because the one that just came out one side is moving out and it will then pull the next one out from the other side. really hard to explain but it is kinda like that. i am sure someone else can do it better than me

The LS1 is an approximately 350 horse motor not only in the GTO, but the Vette and F-body. It varies a little from model to model and expect the F-bod to not put out quite as much power but its up there. X, H, or straight pipes...its up to you. Each has its advantages. X is supposed to make more power, H makes more torque and straight duals are just easier to make and i'd expect to flow the best. I'm partial to the H-pipe but I dont think it matters that much. Someone correct me if I'm wrong at all.
