WS6 vs. T/A

Im sure everyone will tell me im an idiot and to do a search and all that jazz, but honeslty, the search gives back way too many results to look through them all... What is every single exact difference between a WS6 T/A and a regular one, I am in the market for an LS1 TA and I really want the WS6 but it would be cheaper to buy a T/A and put a new hood on it ya know??? TIA - Darren

Re: WS6 vs. T/A

not alot, basically the pretty useless ram air hood (but nice), wheels, and a few suspension things...you can probably fine a ws6 for cheap...fbody resale sucks.. but good for us

Re: WS6 vs. T/A

As Antz mentioned, not a lot. Here's all I can think of:
1. "Ram Air" hood. (really just a cold air supply, not a ram air)
2. Larger opening on air box intake.
3. Free-er flowing catback.
4. 17" wheels/tires.
5. Power steering cooler. (available as an option on most LS1s, and became standard on all in the last couple of years)
6. Some suspension. (by the last couple of years, I think the only 'upgrade' was the sway bars)

Welcome to the board.

You know..., even though your search brings a whole lot of threads, sometimes it actually is better to listen (read) than talk (type).

and sometimes you don't have time to filter through thousands of unrelated posts to find what you're looking for and asking a question is the most direct and easy way to get your answer.

I picked up my 2000 WS6 with 30k miles for 15,200

Ya you could find a T/A for less but it's worth it. A nice hood will be 800 bucks and then ya gotta paint it.

Re: WS6 vs. T/A

Sounds to me like you really just want the aggressive look of the WS6 and don't care so much about the "title" or "badge". That's cool, I'm the same way. I bought a plain Jane Formula and plan to put a ram air hood on it (eventually). If you see a good deal on a WS6 then grab it (less work for you). But if a better deal comes along on a regular TA or Formula then don't pass it up either.

There is a place in Addison, IL that sells WS6 hoods for $485 new. If you wanted it to be functional you can buy the raised airbox from GM for $99 (I called to price it out awhile back). Add $125 for shipping and another $300 for painting. That makes the grand total $1,009.00 for the WS6 look. That is a lot but if you find that WS6's are running say 2-3K more then regular TA's/Formulas it might make more sense to spend that 1K on the hood setup.

Just an idea to kick around.

What is th name of the place as I will be in the market for a T/A or WS-6 soon.If a hood is that cheap then I would go for the T/A and buy the hood.

Re: WS6 vs. T/A

one of you mentioned that if you get a formula all you have to do is swap the hood.... what about those ugly little spoilers.... id swap to a big spoiler from a little one before id swap from a flat hood to a ws6....... just cant stand that little spoiler

Re: WS6 vs. T/A

that's kind of a ricer thing to do considering it's not just a spoiler but an entire rear hatch I believe.

They made Formula WS6's up until 2000. After that it was Trans Ams only. So there are true WS6's out there without the big spoiler and ground affects. I think the TA spoilers and ground affects are ugly. To each his own I guess.

And you do know that alot of ricers make thier first mod a big ugly commando wing. Or does the fart can go on first? Hmmm

Seriously though a wing is not a big deal. The small spoiler look on the Formula looks nicer and cleaner to some (myself included).

I never liked the little spoilers on v6's and Formulas either.
