Is this worth it?
Hey guys,
I figure I'd drop this in on the LS1 crowd. I am in need of another daily driver and saw a clean 2000 Firehawk for 23K at a dealer.
The paint and the interior is just like new with brand new tires. I know the guy who had it and he really takes good care of his cars.
The only thing is that it has 40K miles on it with the majority of them being highway miles to and from work.
Im sure I can talk the dealer down a bit, but would you all think that 20K plus is reasonable?
Also what are some of the trouble spots with these cars besides the headlight motors?
I could use the help in making a decision and I definitely would appreciate it.

Can you check w/ the previous owner to see what he thought ??
T-Top rattles are one possible problem , as well as some engines consuming excess oil. The only way to determine that short of buying the car is a chat w/ the prior owner.
You did not say if it was an A4 or a M6 -
the manuals seem to have some clutch issues & possible synchro/slave cylinder troubles.
The A4's seem to be pretty reliable.
I think the biggest problem you are going to have, though, is keeping good tires on the rear !!

blue book retail is over $24k for that car, but, this is rediculous, private party value is only $20, so $21-$22 is decent for a dealership. you know guy that owned it and it has new tires, if, i would mind paying $22k or $23 for it but i would try to get them to throw in a warrenty.

Thanks guys for the help. I really appreciate it. I went to check it out today and I was quoted a starting price of 21K plus change, but Im sure I can get it down a bit more.
I havent been able to get ahold of the previous owner but when I do, Ill check out the oil usage.
One thing I did was talk the salesman into doing some checks for me before I even go so far as giving it a test drive it. I got him to go and do a compression check, and fuel pressure test and I asked for the numbers. Anything else I should have checked out? Also Ill ask the guy to check the synchro/ slave cylinder( thanks newbie T/A. Also Ill check on a warranty. I didnt even think about asking for one. (thanks who better)
