Talking WooHoo no muffler!

I finally found a place to customize my exhaust for me (after much looking!) I originally took her in for a dynomouth mod, but the guy said that he would take the muffler off first and let me hear it then let me decide if I still wanted to put on the bullet. He changed it and I heard it and it sounded bad a$$!! Needless to say I didnt put on the bullet, and Im very pleased with the sound. Also Im actually really surprised that its not REALLY loud, its just right, and from the moment I left the shop I was getting compliments at stop lights all the way home I just thought I would share my joy

This sounds like my story all over again. I did the same thing, already bought the bullet but heard my car w/o it and it sounded great so the bullet is now in my garage. ha. yeah it really isnt as loud as you would think.

Did you guys just remove the stock muffler portion?

I was fixing my transmission leak and an oil leak from the pressure sensor today and I started to take a look at how the stock muffler was bolted on.

After a lot of elbow grease trying to pry off 7 years of rust between the pipes... I popped off the stock muffler.

I ran around town for a bit, and I guess it really isn't all that loud... its sounds kinda hick'ish at low rpm, but sounds bad *** on the backfires and high rpm. There's a lot of interior resonance, but I really don't care at the moment.

How did you guys do it?

Welcome to my world. I'm running a no-muffler setup as well, and love the way it sounds.
I didn't keep the stock pipes, I had all redone (for better flow, don't know if actually flows any better or not)

A friend of mine did the same thing on his '02 Z28. Cats to factory Y pipe, into straight I-pipe, into custom Y-Pipe out to the tips.

It sounds GREAT!

Yeah I love it, the resonance isnt as bad as other people describe. I actually kind of like it. I still dont think its very loud (not loud enough!) at highway speeds it and doesnt seem to make very much noise at all, but pulling from a stop light is when everyone notices. I still need to get someone to drive past me so I can hear it but I dont trust anyone to drive it.

I have been thinking about buying the slp loudmouth but if the stock system sounds good without the muffler!

What about a custom exhuast from the end of the Y pipe over the axle and striaght out on the passenger side! With some 31/2 inch pipe and hardly any turns that would flow pretty damn good!

You guys must be deaf!

My LT1 was so loud with headers and no muffler I couldn't take it for long.

The LS1 is not as bad, but there are times I need it somewhat quite in my car like when my boss calls me and I am out cruzing around

I love my Corsa, but when I put headers on my LS1 I am gonna do a new y-pipe and a McCord power plate so I can open her wide when needed. This way I can be refined sounding, or all out loud as hell with the touch of a switch

You guy's all have LS1's so it probably sounds a lot better because of the firing order. My LT1 sounds kinda goofy at idle and low rpm... like that "blub blub" sound... but open it up and its a frickin bat outta hell. In the past 2 day's alone 2 Mustangs, 3 civics, 1 Eclipse, and 1 Accord have stayed behind me... kinda funny... but I think it sounds like **** at low rpm so the muffler might go back on until the cat back and cutout.

ok I am kind of new to all of this. Now taking off the muffler doesn't that kill your backpressure? Don't you need some type of backpressure for your engine? You guys tell me, but that's what I've heard, unless you have a bunch of mods and the backpressure is just holding you back.

I had the "no-muffler mod" for about 8 months and loved it.
I had a shop remove the muffler and still have my pipes and stock exhaust tips. From the rear you would not know there was an exhaust modification.
I ran into local inspection laws while trying to get my car inspected here near Charlotte. The law states that you must run a muffler.I already had my Dynomax Bullet so I just paid a shop $20 to install it.It did quiet it down a decible or two . but made the sound deeper (more bassier).
You guys without any type of muffler had better check your local laws so you wont run into problems come inspection time.
Some states may not require a muffler and in that case...rev it on up

Later
Mike
