Lightbulb will this setup pass emmissions

another question for the wide knowledge of post members, i have stock headers on my 99 ls1 but i just swapped the magnaflow exhaust for the loudmouth exhaust (chessy smile) now i am thinking of just straight gutting the cats for better flow, now my questions are will this increase the sound level (if gutted right) i mean or tougher muscle sound and will the gutted cats be able to pass emissions with the loud mouth?? your expertise would be great to have.Oh if your wondering, idont know if this makes a differnace or not but i live in nw indiana (borders chicago) so i dont know how tough the emmisions are

Umm well two things.

Firstly, gutting the cats with a loudmouth is going to make the car sound raspy and poppy, not muscular.

Secondly, you will fail emissions testing 100% if you gut the cats. The cats are what cleans the exhaust so it's less harmful to the enviornment. Gutting them removes the part that cleans the exhaust so you're going to be pooring pure exhaust into the environment.

So in answer to your questions, you will fail emissions and your car will become raspy and poppy sounding.

Poppy and rasspy sounding i really dont understand what that really is there anyway you can explain that sound to me,even if i do gut them basically wouldnt that be almost as free-flowing as a off road y just not as big,in diameter i mean??

Exactly what he said ^ (Ls1-Maniac i mean)

You would not at all be able to pass a sniffer test. Most likey a visual test since the cats are technically still there. Just look up and see what your states inspection requires.

Its not even worth it to gut the cats, there is practically no performance gains with a stock manifolded car, and it'll only sound raspier especially through the Loudmouth. Save up for some longtube headers.

I run Longtubes and an Off road Y pipe through borla, a little raspy but a badass sound none the less...

Cliffnotes - don't gut cats.

By raspy, we mean its not going to be a deep tone. Its going to be higher pitched with no real tuned sound. And no its not going to be as free flowing as an ORY. Now that the material is gone out of the cats you have just created a large turbulent chamber in your exhaust that still has to go through the crappy stock crushed pipe.
