Talking WILL I BREAK MY REAREND IF I RUN DRAG RADAILS???

I'm considering drag radails when I buy tires next (soon), are people having problems with them like breaking rearends, clutches etc, on bolt on modded motors? Thanks for your help.

With a bolt-on motor? Probably not.

It depends how abusive you are, but I have been running them for years with mild bolt ons, and never broke a rear axle on them. I did shatter the posi in my old '97 Z28, but that was spraying out of the hole on Mickey Thompsons. On the run before that I cut a 1.77 60'.

I broke mine on drag radials, no problem. Shattered them. It is traction that does it. If your 60' times are over 2.0 you have less to worry about then if you are cutting low 1.8's. Plus the manual is harder on the rear than an automatic.

What's a safe launching RPM (yes, oxymoron) for a bolt-on 6-speed with nittos? Figure between 300-350 at the wheels since I'm not sure if I want to do headers and a few other things just yet ...

I would imagine 3.5k to be pretty close to "safe."

Thanks for the input, I feel better about getting them now. Since I only have bolt ons I should be ok for the most part.

Based on the mods I see on your sig my answer is NO.
But I have heard of a few unlucky individuals break theirs at REAL sticky tracks such as at HRP. But most of these guys were either with built motors or every bolt on possible.

Based on your mods you probably wont break your rear.I have close to 40 passes on my 4.10's with headers w/ORY,lid w/holley filter,MAF ends and BFG drag radials.I put down 342/355 to the wheels.Ive seen cars with less hp and softer launches break rears and axles!
Ive seen cars break rears on every kind of tire and mods. Its a risk you take. I launch anywhere from 3600-4000 dumping th clutch with 14 lbs of air cold.I cut mid to low 1.7 short times all day long.No problems except for alittle gear whine.
Its up to you though.Everytime you run you can break stuff. With drag radials and practice I dropped several tenths. Also I have a girdle and it is speculation if they work or not.IMO if its going to blow its going to.
I hope I helped out.
