Will certain trans's fluid's help fix sycro's

I have had my Camaro since day one, its a 2000 SS and since then all I have put in was the BMR Short Shifter, but I hav alway's kinda had a problem and never really tackled it with warranty because they alway's threaten that if they don't find a problem I will have to pay for it....anyway to get to the point is the damn trans won't stay in gear when I shift to revers. I think the Sycro is messed up because after I put it in the second time it works out pretty good...do you guys think that synthetic redline oil stuff is good in a way where it might be good enough to help out with the prob. I have 50,000 miles on the trans and I changed the clutch last 2 weeks with a centerforce.......any info would be great.....

I can't help you out with the question but what I will tell you is to run a synthetic either way. They're so much better than a standard oil, they won't break down nearly as easily and they can withstand higher temps which is great if you like to race your car. Plus they give you a little bit of horsepower do to the reduced friction that they provide over a standard oil.

If your trans is poping out of gear then go get it fixed under warranty, but take and put the stock shifter back on first. Changing the oils wont help out, if its broke its broke...Trust me i have 3 M6s that have bad syncros right now and one with a shattered gear...Just go get that **** fixed...

Not to get off topic here but CobraKilla do you actually have 3 6 speeds laying around with bad syncros and 1 tranny that has a shattered gear ?? Are you willing to sell one ?? I am looking to get a M6 out of a camaro or vette to rebuild and install in my project...

Thanks,

Charlie

While I was under my original warranty, I had to have my synchros replaced due to a 2-3 grind everytime I shifted at high RPM's. About 6 months ago, I started getting an intermittant grind on the 2-3 shift. I took it in several times, but the dealer couldn't duplicate the problem, but it did grind from time to time. I check my records and it had been about 30K since my last fluid change, so I decided to just give it a try. I went with regular Valvoline ATF. That was 6 months ago and it hasn't grinded since. I'm guessing the fluid was just worn out.

I went with dino ATF on purpose. I'd always heard that synthetic ATF in our T56 was too slick for our synchros and actually caused more problems with grinding.

Hey yes I actually do have what I listed sitting around here. Well one is in my SS right now actually. But sorry I dont want to sell any of them as of right now. I would recomend going to www.ranchochevy.com and then calling their toll free number and seeing what they can do for you. They are in Sacramento, Ca btw.
Thanks have a good one,
Brad

Fluid will not fix worn synchro's. Put the stock shifter in and take it in for warranty work. They aren't going to stick you for a bill.

Whatever you do don't use synthetics in these trannies. It will deteriorate the syncro's and they will wear out faster. A good ATF is just fine and remember to USE THE CLUTCH.
