Why does my car run like an LT1 ?
what were the conditions at the track though. you cant tell me your car ran a 13.1 stock and claim it is all quick as hell if it was like 60 degrees outside. temp, track condition, humidity, wind all that factor into how fast your car can be. whos to say to you didnt have a 25 mph tail wind, i wouldnt know that. my 98 ls1 ran a 13.6 at 101 the only time i went to the track, and that is with a 2.02 60 foot on street tiresand i had a whisper lid on at that point. but then again it was like 80 degrees out side with a slight cross wind. all i am saying is that a 13.8 and if you look for stock numbers on a 98-00 ls1 they say that it runs about 13.5-.7 . also you have a ram air hood i know that it doesnt help all that much due to the tiny slot the air has to travel through, but it does make the air go straight from the outside into the engine intead of bounging off the hot radiator.
by the way about the puncuation sorry was in a hurry did't really think about it.

how can you say the lt1's are close to an LS1, they run 13.80's, LS1's run LOW 13's, for example i went 13.1 @109.7 my first time ever to a track with my WS6. not to mention it put more power down at the wheels than a lt1 makes at the flywheel. its not bashing the lt1, it is just the facts. the ls1 is benefitting from modern technology and years of research. but the a4 convert will be slower than a hardtop m6, no doubt about it.

the best gear for the 1/4 mile, there are lots of guys on this board who are (claiming??) to run 13's with their cars bone-stock, so it can be done with 2.73's.

Well, I never underestimated the LT1 or put it down. Like I said, I often wondered if my LT1 car was a freak running 12.80s with just bolt ons and naturally aspirated. I just know many people spend a lo of money to even hit 310 hp on an lt1, and the ls1 cars came with it. Seems like I should be faster is all I am saying. Not faster than that 12.80 mind you, but faster than my lt1 car was stock. Given it was 3.23 and t tops, but still....

what troubles me about this board sometimes is the fact the some people think that just because they have an ls1 they think that it should smoke a lt1. now stock to stock it should beat it but not by much, you also have to take things into account like the fact that a convertable had garbage aerodynamics and also weighs more. that and the fact you have a 99 if you had a 01 or 02 you would be faster still due to the fast of the ls6 intake and a different cam. i myself have a ls1 as you can see in my sig and in my screen name, but i am not ignorant to the lt1 power my buddy has a 93 that will leave me in the dust granted it isnt stock and it is a manual and mine is an auto. you have to look at things like the torque curve lt1 has a broader curve and the ls1 is more of a top end curve. i am not trying to rag on anyone with this statement i am just saying that the lt1 is not something to be taken lightly all it takes is the right bolt ons and they are as fast as a 99-00 ls1 mainly a cat-back and cai that is all my buddy had and he was right next to me all the way down the strip. but take it as a way to motivate you to put some parts into that thing and make it fly.

The topic of this thread is out of line. With ram air and a Flowmaster muffler my 97 LT1 went 13.550 @ 102.50. The day before the car pulled a low 243 hp on the dyno. Like everyone else is pointing out, there are many factors that affect track times. Weather, Track Prep, Weight, Barometric Pressure, Temperature, Elevation, etc.
An LT1 with 243 Horse power and 3.23 gears will beat a stock LS1 A-4 convertable with 310 horse power and 2.73 gears every day because an LT1 makes loads of torque down low and will use that torque three times during the quarter mile. Where as the LS1 makes lots of horse power in the high rpm range and with 2.73 gears will only use that horse power 2 times due to the gear ratio. Keep running out to a half mile and the LS1 will walk the LT1 considerably.....

I don't think my topic is out of line. I think it is more than fair to ask why I didn't get better times on the car than what I did. I asked, you guys answered (although many of you seem to have hurt feelings about it). I know why it ran like it did now, so the topic served its purpose.
For the record, I agree it's not all in HP. That 12.8 I ran with my LT1 was with only 278 rwhp according to the dyno..
