Why 5.3L Heads?

Why 5.3L Heads?

I have been looking at a head cam package for my 02' WS6 and I have had several of my friends suggest Patriot Performance Stage II 5.3L Heads. When I asked them why 5.3L instead of 5.7L Stage II I got blank stares.

I have also looked at several posts from the past on the subject but haven't really seen any good answers on why people suggest the 5.3L heads. Does anyone know what the performance advatages of the 5.3L over the 5.7L heads are?

they bump up your compression ration a bit...... smaller "dome"

I know that there is already a similar post about this but I will ask the question anyway...

Which would you say is better than. The 5.3 or 5.7L LS1 casting. And also is the LS6 cast heads (Stage II) that much better than the LS1 heads?

The LS-1 head and the 5.3 heads carry the same ports to the T. The 5.3 heads have a smaller combustion chamber, so it increases your compresion. This is why people buy them over the 5.7 head. There are no other diffrences at all. The LS-6 heads and the 6.0 Ltr. truck heads also carry the same ports as each other. The ports themselves are larger than the LS-1/5.3 so higher flow numbers can be achived. This will net in more power, but usaully only at high RPM's on stock bottom end motors. The LS-6 heads from Patriot are 6.0Ltr heads that have had the Combustion chamber professionally welded up, so the compression will be bumped up. So now you have a LS-6 head for the price of a 6.0ltr head and more compression. For the money, you can not beat the Patriot Stage 2 LS-6/6.0 head, followed by the Patriot 5.3 ltr head in second place.
