whos had A4 tranny problems?

I just broke something in mine with 62K on it. I think the reaction sun gear stripped out its splines. I have no reverse, 2nd, and OD. I guess these LS1s just make too much power . What are my options now rebuild? aftermarket? what do you guys think?

I had similar problems with mine a week after I got it. The trans went out. Turns out the previous owner didn't know how to do burnouts. He was doing Neutral Drops into 2nd gear. I had to have the whole tranny replaced.

With that kind of damage, you need a new tranny or at least a rebuilt one.

You're probably right. GM now makes a hardened sun gear and shell. The parts should be available from a dealer. It's a simple repair and you shouldn't need a full rebuild. You can also check with an aftermarket shop, sometimes they are ahead of GM.

I just about pulled the trans out 2 weeks ago to put in a Midwest converter, im glad I didnt now The bad thing about rebuilding the trans is that the metal will circulate though the valve body and torque converter. I guess I will just price it out and see which is cheaper. I can get a new GM 4L60-e for $1350 from my dealership so it might be my best bet.
