Who makes the best Air Lid and filter combo?

I recently purchased a 2002 SS Camaro and am going to start modifying it soon.. One of my first mods is going to be a less restrictive air lid.. but I would like to know who makes the best one. I was planning on doing all of my upgrade parts through SLP (with a new lid and intake items, exhaust, headders and so on) but I want to make sure that I am going to get the best bang for my buck as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also has anyone installed a VARA RAM air filter in their car? If so what were your results and do you like it better than a K&N or Holley? Thanks again!

They're all similar. I bought the SLP lid because it was the cheapest at $70 (at the time.)

Most people will tell you to get a Holley Powershot filter over a K&N because it doesn't require a gasket.

Guess I'll be the first to say that a lid is a lid is a lid. They all pretty much put out similar numbers give or take. It might be time to make this question into a sticky at the top of the forum.

Thumbs down

All the lids are about the same so getting the slp lid would be fine but stop there. The rest of slp parts aren't worth anything except their SFC's.

I got the Whisper lid.

Do a search and I'm sure you can get more answers to your question.

A lid is a lid is a lid..
Just find the cheapest one that has the look you want.. I prefer the carbon look.. others like clear.. (only problem with clear is that they do develope hairline cracks because the plastic is more brittle.. Have not seen one ever yellow though)

filters... hmm you are going to find those that think aftermarket filters are best.. then there are those like myself.. I have tested my car with them.. I prefer AC Delco filters.

I was able to see a consistant 3hp with an AC Delco filter over K&N, Amsoil, or no filter at all..

I got my whisper lid for $80....the guy (who's on the forum) I guess works somehow for SLP and they give/sell him te lids that can't be sold for various reasons. The one I got had a tiny scratch, about a half in long.

Do a search for my posts in that forum, he might still have some.

TSP lid because they look the best and tend to fit better.

Holley filter because they fit better then K & N's do. However they gain nothing over paper filters and can be messy if you use too much oil. I'd just use the cheap paper ones.

I got my SLP because it has the hose for the 2002 LS1. Most others need a seperate K&N filter to put on the line.
