Question Whisper Lids

Im new to the LS-1. I just bought it on Wed. the 20th of Nov. and while crusing the web-board, I have seen people talking about whisper lids, and well, I know what they are, But I just want to know who makes them, and if more than one company does, which one is best. Also Im looking into a new mass airflow, and maybe in Feb. add and LS-6 Intake. Any information on the whisper lid and the best mass airflow would be greatly appreaciated. (sp. sucks).

Thanx in advance,
Jason

There are several vendors that sell them. The above mentioned is good. Also checkout:

www.thunderracing.com

Many people have had luck with the Pace MAF or SLP MAF. You can get the Pace at www.paceparts.com

As for the mention of the LS6 intake, that will require removing your egr. Just wanted to give you a heads up as this will require some programming to prevent trouble codes.

Z06 85mm MAF

I was looking on LS-1speed.com and saw this MAF, and I was wondering if it is a direct bolt on or are there other mods. that I would need to make (like a new intake to accept the larger size). Also I notice it doesn't come with a screen, can I use mine off of the stock one, or do I have to buy a new one? Also what other parts would I need to go from the whisper lid to the MAF ( I assume it's going to be larger than the parts that come with the whisper lid kits since they are just bolted on the the factory parts. Any or all info is greatly appreceated. Just FYI, I plan on doing all of this in a few weeks, (after Christmas) Im getting a nice check for profit sharing from work.

Thank-You again,
Jason

Most aftermarket MAF will be descreened. It increases airflow. Most lids will comes with the necessary hardware and clamps to mount aftermarket and stock MAF. You'll be fine. My Granatelli fits my carbon fiber lid perfectly.

BTW, I've bought a lot of parts from LS1 Speed and they are awesome to deal with plus they will meet or beat any price.

Just get the lid.....it's 100 dollars shipped, takes 15-min to put on, is totally safe and gives 10-15-HP that you can both feel and hear instantly! You won't regret it and will wonder why they wern't OEM spec first off!

well WHISPER is a name for the manufacturer of the LID.

There are SLP, LS1 Mortosports, MTI, Whisper, Granatelli (GMS), and I am sure that I am missing some..

SLP - Some have fitment issues, others dont.. Just a luck of the draw on that one.

LS1 - havent heard anything bad about them.. just so bland for my tastes

MTI - They are local and I dont like them so I refuse to support them.

Whisper - The recent post about fitment has been the only issue I have ever heard of with this lid.. I plan on getting a Carbon look.

GMS - Just dont like anything they did for the LT1 so I bring that along with me for the LS1.. hehe

Alternatives:
K&N FIPK - I am not a fan.. Would prefer the car have more original parts and add the least amount to make it fast..

Volant (i think) - just UGLY IMO.. some people really like it though..

Filters:
K&N - I just dont respect them.. They offer a filter that sorta fits our cars so it needs a foam gasket to help seal..

Holley Powershot - Fits perfectly and is blue. Pretty kewl.

Amsoil - Interesting that not many people have this one.. Its easier to clean (can use soap and water) than the others and works the same.. I am getting this one tomorrow.

MAF:
Its very hit and miss.. and unless you are making serious power and are tuning the car for it, why bother with a $300 gamble. I know people who swear they got 10rwhp out of it and others who started having issues the second they installed it.

Since you are fresh and just starting out.. think seriously about what your ultimate goal for the car is...

Mine is consistant mid 12's with the least amount of add ons.
i still have LCAs that I wont install until I get a launch with good tires..

good luck and check on the board for info when you have questions.. really helps..

I have the LS1 Motorsports lid w/ K&N filter. I'm very happy with the fit and looks.
