whining, whinding sound

This sound is noticable, especially when I'm slowing down and the engine isn't as loud. Just got the mods in my sig installed a few days ago. Has anyone had this experience? It didn't make that sound before the mods, so it has to be attributed to one of em. Especially when I'm slowing down it sounds like something is whinding down. There is a faint whining sound most of the time, just not as audible over the engine noise. Is something wrong? What can I do to stop it, because it's aggravating as hell!!

Re: whining, whinding sound

sounds like the gears you put in have a little too much backlash or not enough pinion preload. fuel pumps have been known to whine as well.

Will this noise, if it is the gears or pump, eventually go away or get quieter? Is this something that needs to be fixed for reasons other than annoyance?

Let me guess ..... Richmond 3.73's?

If the whining is just faint (noticeable, but not really bad) then consider yourself lucky. When I had my Richmond 3.73's, sounded like I had an ambulance chasing me at all speeds above ~10?! Chances are your installation is perfect, just the nature of the beast it seems.

Don't count on it. Maybe if you're lucky.

Richmonds are notorious for the whining. Sometimes it settles most time it doesnt. Next time you do gears use the power transfer parts... ironically made by richmond however they dont whine.

Just for the record:

My Richmond 3.73's whined BAD all the time, while my Richmond 4.10's were barely audible, and under acceleration only .

They whine but if excessive the a rule of thumb is whining on acceleration is too tight, whining on decel they are too loose on the backlash or the pinion depth isn't right
