whining??

I just bought an 02 SS M6 completely stock with 6000 miles, whenever im driving at about 55 and higher speeds and i start to press on the gas their is this noise I hear its more like a humming sound. This only happens at these speeds it sort of sounds like when you have really agressive tires and you can hear the tires inside the car when you reach a certain speed. Could it be the fuel pump that im hearing. Im not sure its my first camaro.
Also what sort of 1/4 mile times should i be running assuming im a good driver not an excellent driver, completely stock.

Re: whining??

Rear end noise? Every car I've been in with a rear end issue, seems to whine right around 55 mph. Don't know...would have to hear the sound to be sure. However, 6,000 miles is kinda early to start hearing rear end noise.

I have absolutley the same problem in my 2000 ss. I purchased it as a demo (15000km) Month later, diff was howling like a wolf. Gears were shot in the rear end. Once it was rebuilt, the wining was gone, but I can still hear at exactly 52-55 mph, under very light acceleration. Maybe I just noticed this now because I had the problem earlier, or maybe it is due to a bad rebuild. Either way, you've got warranty, so take it in, and they'll probably open it up for you and check for any wear. Even so, 10 k is way too early to start hearing those types of noise.

I hear the same thing, I'm guessing its the fuel pump doing its job. I have the rear seats and carpeting removed in the back and that sound is louder.

Re: whining??

My car made a light whining noise in 5th at about 55 for as long as I have had it. Now it is in 5th and 6th it is normal due to the 4.10's. When my pinion bearing died it really howled.

Re: whining??

It seems to happen in fifth at right about 55mph and up if i slightly step on the gas youll hear it but as soon as I stop pressin the gas it goes away. When i somewhat get on the gas a little more the noise will start at first for about a second or two then go away. It's not really loud just sort of annoying if you dont have the stereo on.
