Red face What's Wrong With My Horn?

My horn has been sounding really weak lately. When I lock my car using the keyless entry system it emits a very short, staccato like sound instead of the deep long beep it used to have. When pressing the horn the same thing happens. I took it to the dealer, they repaired it under warranty, but the problem still persists. Any suggestions?

You probably got water in the horn... you can either take it off and try to dry it out which MIGHT fix the problem, or you can replace the horn unit. You probably ran through a puddle and splashed water up there. It's facing towards the front of the car on the passengers side below the battery. Hope this helps.

I'm taking my car in to the dealer tomorrow - WISH ME LUCK! HAHA. That's one of the things I'm getting checked though. Come to find out there's actually 2 horns, emitting 2 different tones - a low "A" note and a higher "F" note - something like that. I'm missing the lower note for sure - my horn sounds like a rice burner.

The same thing happenned to me. It was either water or overuseage. They replace the entire horn assembly because I blew out the low tone. No problems since.

Thumbs up

I was wondering why my car started sounding like a Fiat. Good info.

Yeah, both my '99 T/A & SS had that problem.

I was beginning to think it was restricted to just that year - apparently not.

By any chance do you wash your underhood ?

I try to be careful , but it is possible I wetted 'em.

Oh, well.

Later !

I think a big puddle could do it. I also have a quick trigger with that horn. You need it in Chicago.

My 99TA does that too! and so does my GF's 99 Firebird. She has had hers "fixed" by the dealer 4-5 times. It works for about 1 week, then goes bad again. This just keeps happening. I wonder what is causing the problems were having. Something had to be majorly wrong somewhere... ie crappy design which GM is too cheap to recall.

Well, it is in a pretty sucky location - probably gets wet everytime you drive in the rain! Don't even have to go through a big puddle. I never had a problem with my '96 - horn situated higher then?

IT'S PROBABLY THE HOLES that appeared on the '98 and newer models! That's it - water just runs right up in there when you wash it, or drive in the rain. Ok now, what's the fix? Relocate it?
