What's a good price for an '02?
Well i have a friend that has a 02 m6 ramair WS6 it only has i think 7 to 15 k mi I really cant remember but i think he wants 24 but anyhow yeah 20 k mi seems a bit high mine is an 00 and only has 36000 and i think that is high
OK, I went ahead and got it. Did I get a good deal? Tell me what you guys think:
2002 Z28 M6
Power...steering. No ASR, no power windows, and no power door locks. It does not have T-tops. The only power is under the hood.
The car actually has 15K miles on it. Supposedly, it was traded in by a middle-aged couple. It is in almost-new condition.
I got it for $19,200. I am going to try my hardest to break into the 12s bone stock with this thing. I'll leave it stock until the cool fall air comes in, and we'll see what happens. The car's a runner, so it will be close!

no power windows or door locks??????
id say you could have found a better deal. Good luck breaking 12s bone stock, i honestly dont see that happening, but hey maybe youll be lucky i have a 98 ss with a couple of bolt ons and i ran a 13.6 @108. but seeing as how i spun through 1st and 2nd, if i get some drag radials i could probably run around 13.3-13.4.
but good luck let me know how it goes.

NADA says the retail should be about 21K on this car...with a trade-in value of around 18K. I don't know if people have actually been paying that much for '02 Camaros, but I look at it like this: The car had to sell for 22 or 23 K brand new, right? So, 3000-4000 off that price for almost 2 years of depreciation and use seems reasonable. The car is a GM Certified Used Vehicle.
Even if a 12 doesn't happen, 13.0 is likely to happen. I ran a 13.3@108 in my '98 M6 when it was stock, and that was before I really figured out how to launch on street tires. I expect 108-109 mph from this car in cool, dry air. With a 2.0 60ft, it's got a chance for a 12.9.
The car has to weigh close to 3300 lbs without any options and without a driver. Maybe I'll remove the spare as well. Does that still count as stock?

IMHO, I personally think you paid way too much for what sounds like a stripper Z28 w/ 15k even if it is in very nice condition.
For $21,000 I would have sold you my fully-loaded mostly stock '02 M6 Z28 in showroom condition w/ only 2,650 miles on it. Too bad I didn't know you were ever looking.
But as long as your happy, it is definitely worth it then.
Good luck with the Z,
Mike

thanks for the opinion...my rationale:
You really think that's way too much? So, thousands less? I'm not sure it's possible to buy a quality '02 for that cheap. What are we talking about, $8,000 depreciation in a little over a year? Don't forget, it is still a Z28. And it's an M6, not an auto. EVERYONE is trying to sell an auto (ehhh!). It's hard to find a good M6 car.
On all of the for sale sites I have checked out, the price I paid is lower than 95% of the prices advertised. Everyone wants 21 or 22K for an '02. The lowest asking price I found for an '02 in my area was $18,995 (an A4 with 25K miles). I should have paid less for my stripper model, but the only alternatives are more expensive cars with more options.
I think the key difference is that individual owners who really need to unload their cars are willing to take losses...but dealerships are in business to make profits. Maybe I paid more than I would have if I were bailing someone out of a car loan so he could pay the rent or buy a van for his family. But I wasn't looking to take over someone's problem. I didn't want to buy a modified car. I wanted grandma's stock car. I got a GM certified, clean, unmodified car.
Plus, I needed to finance, and most banks don't finance cars purchased person-to-person (or they charge a premium to finance such cars). Banks want you to buy from a dealership. I got a 4.75% 48 month loan for a USED car! If I had purchased from an individual, it would have been 7%+.
