Post What's the difference between Firebird/Camaro Monsoon systems?

I'm installing a Monsoon system into my Buick Grand National. I have the stereo, amp and speakers from a Camaro and would like to know if the wiring harness from a Trans Am will have the same number of plugs in the wiring.

I don't know, but the camaro unit is much better because it has a better display, is has SCV (speed compusated volume), it has autotone, preset scan and it looks nicer. you will get better anwsers in the audio system forum.

Question

While this is posted in here though, can someone tell me where 2 of the 8 speakers in these cars are??? All I can find are 6: 1 in each door, 1 beside each of the rear seats, and 1 on either side behind the rear seats. I thought that the cars were advertised as having an "8 speaker Monsoon system", and that's even what it said on my door sticker, so WTF??

If someone can tell me, that would be great!!!

Thx!

On camaro's and Firebirds both the 2 speakers you aren't counting are in the back...In the far back of the car there are 4 speakers...a little mid range and a tweeter. on each side...two in the sail panel and two in the doors...thats 8...the other 2 for the firebirds are tweeters located above the speakers in the door.

There are different speakers depending on if the head unit has a CD or cassette.

My woofers crapped out on my T/A, so I tried to swap out with a Z28. The resistance was different and the connectors were different.

I dug a little deeper and found that CD head units gets a different speaker package than the Cassette head unit package, even though they are both Monsoon systems.

Go figure ...

Thanks, but I still don't know if I understand where you mean? It's raining right now, so I can't go out and check, but maybe I will tomorrow! What I can tell you is that I've pulled all the covers off that I can see (6 in total) and there is only 1 speaker under each cover (hence, 6). When you said "in the far back", do you mean the ones in the sides just behind the back seat?? or are there two at the very back?? (ie: under the carpeting??)

Thanks again.

The ones in the very back...If you take the covers flip the grill over and what you should see are two speakers...one tweeter and one normal speaker. On both the camaros and my firebird this has been the case...I went to countless dealerships to find out where the extra speakers are and no luck till we started installing the system and saw the speakers. Those speakers back there are acuatully decent...(only ones in the car I haven't replaced) The grill looks like it holds one speaker...but thats where the mystery 2 speakers are....

The Camaro has only one speaker on each side in the back. The Firebird has two on each side. There is a two way speaker in each door. Chevy considers them to be four speakers total. The two in the back seat area makes 8. Technically, it's a 6 speaker system. Chevy says 8 because they consider a 2 way speaker to be 2 speakers.

My 2001 Z28 has 2 on each side in the very back. One grill covers both speakers. 8 speakers total.

Okay, so I guess the frenchmen at Ste. Therese screwed up then!! I just went out and checked, and under the covers in the back (behind back seat) there is only ONE speaker per side, NOT two --- BUT, there looks like there SHOULD be a second speaker, since there's a smaller hole there beside the bigger speaker that is there. I just wish I could figure this out!! Unless ZZed's theory is right - if speakers in doors (covered - can't tell one way/two way) are two ways, maybe they're counted as two?? Or, like I said, I guess they screwed up at the plant and installed a 6-speaker system with my "8-speaker" Monsoon system (at least the radio says Monsoon, otherwise I'd be really pi$$ed!!)

That space for the second speaker in the back is actually used on the Firebird. They have 4 speakers in the back. All of the Camaros I've seen have one per side in the hatch area.
