I had a centerforce clutch and it was the biggest pos that I've ever tried. I almost ruined my tranny because of it. It wouldn't let me shift, it wouldn't dissengage.
I would definately not buy one, especially with all of the other good choices out there.

I'm playing safe and will install Z06 kit this week. I'll let you know what I think.

Thanks for your replies.
BTW, do you guys think I should install another master cylinder, such as the MacLeod and the 2001 GM clutch slave cylinder since it's an improvement from the 2000
I have a 2000 SS
THanks !

I would not get a dual friction clutch. My friend blew his apart within 2 months on his 99 SS. I had one on my other car (98Z) and mine lasted 6 weeks before the spring housings on it cracked and they flew everywhere. i say get a Mcleod...only hear good things about them.

I know you have an LS1 and I have an LT1, but I would personally never choose to deal with Centerforce again. I went through seven different clutch installations and finally switched to an automatic due to problems that I isolated at my own expense that were directly the result of the Centerforce product.
It is now a couple of years later and I'm sure you have a different product number, but I would not wish anyone the experience that I had with their company and their products.

To Madmanmike: You might want to do some research before doing the Z06 clutch as I think 2001 and 2002 F-Bodies came with this clutch from the factory. Check out this

I have no experience with the centerforce in a LS1 but have on in my old V6 Camaro and it works great. I have a 1999 SS that has a Cartek clutch and am about to put a Cartek in my 2000 SS.

Mods? Well...yes, enough mods to have MAD horsepower.
More mods to come? Well..yes, working on achieving INSANE horsepower.
Last dyno 336hp and 361 torque. Have done some stuff since then.
Car has gone a best of 12.64@111.67mph with a 60' of 2.15

I've got a '01 WS6 and my buddy, a GM LS1 Tech, has a 98 WS6 with Lingenfelter kit and we both run the Centerforce Dual Friction clutches. My buddy's car had a slight vibration at 2200 and would sometimes not shift at 6500 rpm but when he removed the motor to do more mods, he had the flywheel balanced with the pressure plate and installed the '01-up master cylider and slave, he's got close to 28,000 miles on the clutch with no problems whatsoever.
My car has 9,300 miles and we installed the CF clutch at 3,400 miles. Mine operates flawlessly. Before we installed mine, we balanced the flywheel and pressure plate and it's vibration free.
We've had good luck with them!

Hmm...I hear mixed opinions on the Centerforce. What about others, like the Street Twin clutch?

In my experiences, the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch sucks. Went through 2 of them in less than a year. And yes the flywheel was resurfaced. Since then I've gone with the SPEC Stage III Ceramic. Awesome clutch.
Resurfaced flywheel and tried a brand new flywheel. Replaced the complete hydraulics twice.
Finally installed an OEM clutch and all probelms went away. Re-installed brand new Centerforce clutch and all problems returned.
Since New York city is a 385 mile drive one way and I went both ways a couple of times I would say I met my 500 mile break in plus heat up and cool down cycles. I tried everything I could think of and Centerforce kept blaming the installed (a GM dealer whose mechanic has drag raced for 20+ years), so I even tried a different shop that specializes in transmissions (same problem), they blamed the installer, or the hydraulics, or the flywheel, or they thought I was not telling them the truth....
It went on and on.
Now I have a 700R4. Oh yea, the car was only a high 12 second/ low 13 second car on drag radials when this all started.
This was only my experience. Yours may vary.

Hi all,
Once again, thanks to all for your responses.
Actually, after a bit more research, I did not order the CenterForce Dual-Friction... I opted for a more solid investment.
McLeod Twin-Dual-Disk + flywheel + adj-master cyl + slave-cyl.
It costs me a bit more... but I'm sure it'll take the abuse... I'll make sure to break it in gently the first 600 miles (1000 kms)
Thanks ;-)

I'm glad I opted for the McLeod twin-plate.
Excellent clutch... bites harder and has the Master cylinder adjustable... it takes a few stop-and-go to get used to it, but wold highly recommend it to anyone.
