Post cam for stock heads

sorry to post another cam question....

for a daily driver M6 with Macs and stock heads, what cam can I use without programming and try to stay emissions legal? maybe suggest patters to look for. Someone mentioned that they wouldnt go any higher on the duration than 220 for what I'm looking for....

The 220/220, or 222/222 on a 112 or 114 LSA are quite nice. I am looking into the same thing. But emissions are not that big of deal to me.

So I'm looking at 224/224-114LSA most likely or maybe the 112LSA.

For you the MTI B1 cam would be another good choice on stock heads 221/221 .558/.558 lift with a 114LSA = good idle

But there is this new cam by TR, that is 214/220 but the life #'s are high .600/.527 on a 115LSA, I am not sure how long even upgraded springs would last on that hig lift cam. Any way it is supposed to idle like a Z06 but have good power through out the RPM band from like 1500-6200RPM or something, but then it falls off fast. It just worries me with the fast ramp and high lift.

Cams are a pain to select, keep reading and researching!

Cool

You could get away with a 222/222 on a 114 LSA for emissions testing and stock programming. I highly recommend that you at least get an HPP3 to be able to raise your rev limiter up to 6,600. You'll need to be shifting at 6,400-6,500 RPM (depending on the advance ground in). A 220/220 114 LSA would be a good choice, too. I would get a Comp Cams cam ground on XE-R lobes. The more aggressive ramp rates will give you better idleability and some added power. Yes, they're a little harder on valvetrain components than milder ramp rates, but you'll be fine with a good set of springs. I had a 224/224 112 LSA in my SS for a while with .581" lift, and now I'm running a 228/228 111 LSA with .588"/.588" lift. Needless to say, I'm not worried with emissions testing.

Shoot me an e-mail if you'd like to discuss some various cams further. I'm in the process of opening my own shop, so I can get you any Comp Cams camshaft custom-ground. I can also supply Manley valve springs, titanium retainers, and hardened pushrods for a nice price.

My T/A made 380rwhp/372rwtq with the Thunder TR220/114 cam. It idles good and will pass inspection as well. It is a great cam!

GM HOT CAM!
or
TR 224/224/112

Both run fine with stock tuning and make withing 10hp or each other...The HotCam is cheaper in cost though...

The 224 cam from Thunder racing won't pass emission in a strict state such as Virginia or California (I don't know how strict all states are). We have 2 cars in my area with this cam 1 did not pass emissions and I am possitive mine will not either. Both are untuned with LT's, cats, and 3" exhaust systems.

You would want to stick with a cam with a 114-116 lobe seperation if your no going to reprogram.
