What will an engine rebuild cost?

My car has 110k miles on it. While I'm not ready to rebuild it yet. I may after another 20k miles. So I was wondering what a nice rebuild would cost. Nothing crazy but a good 400 horsepower motor would be great. That's basicaly the area I want to beef the motor up to 400-425 horses. Whatever it takes to get there.

Depends on what kind of parts, because last time I rebuilt a 94 350 Small Block Chev, it ran me $ 800 for the following, New Rings, Bearings, Gaskets, Hot Tank (Block), New Cam Bearings Installed, Paint (to paint the engine black), Heads (new Hardened Steal Exhaust Valve Seats, Heads checked for cracks and warpage, Surfacing Heads, Clean Valves and reinstall Valves, Springs and New Valve Seals), HEI (New Accel), New AC Delco Spark Plugs, New Carquest Old Wires, and other misc. Parts like Dipstick Tube and Dipstick, Chrome Valve Covers and Chrome Timing Chain Cover... I did clean the Pistons myself, Honed the Cylinder Walls w/ a Ball Hone and Drill, install the rings and pistons, bearings, gaskets and headers and custom making a lower Alternator bracket since the heads does/did not have any accessory holes.... Now if I could go back here is what I would have done different to my 350 in C10, I would have done the above except, I would have put on Melling Splayed Caps instead of the stock 2 bolt Caps, then I would have had the heads done but before installing them, I would have had the stock pressed in Rocker Studs removed and Screw in studs installed, then instead of running the 66 Vette Cam (from a 327 w/ 350 HP), I would have boughten a Full Roller Cam and Roller Rocker arms... But then instead of running $ 800 for parts, I would have been into 2500 in parts instead and machine work instead...

Considering that I had just kept it stock bore and ran the stock pistons from (94 GM 350), it can run you anywhere from $ 300 for parts and if you rebuild, no labor.. But if you want/need to have the block Bored out, then you will need new pistons, and if you want to make your lower end nearly indestructable, look at around another $ 1200 - 2000 for a Forged Crank and Forged Rods... Then the oversize pistons will be another $ 600 + and rings will be another $ 120 +...

I don't know how your engine was taken care of before you bought it, but chances are you might be able to get away w/ just changing the rings, Rod Bearings, Crank Bearings and all gaskets... Which would be $ 300 - 500 or more depending on how much the gasket set is for the LS1, Rings and Bearings run... I am not too sure on the pricing of the LS1 since my car has only 17,500 miles and it is my first time ever owning an LS1 and I don't want to go and void my Factory and Extended Warranty Now...

I want the whole thing done. No half done rebuild. Pistons and the whole works to do it right. Nice performance cam too but not with a crazy lope to it.
